Sunna and I decided that we wanted to start journaling our lives the old fashioned way. We discussed this a few times but never actually acted on it. When I knew it was time to proposed, I thought it would be a great idea to buy her a moleskin and write her first journal entry.

I obviously wanted it to be a big surprise so I figured I’d engage the help of my fiance’s boss. Lulu’s a school teacher and her principal was key in getting the whole plan down. I told him to arrange for her to go to the Huntington Library Gardens to obtain a school grant. This way she would be at work on the clock and not have any clue as to the surprise proposal.

Sam and I met each other at work and would casually cross paths with one another in the hallway. We had our fair exchange of awkward glances and occasional smiles, until one day Sam decided to ask me out on a date. It must have taken him 3-4 separate visits to my office that same day until he finally asked me out to dinner. When I told him I had a gluten allergy, I could tell he was nervous because he had texted me 10 different gluten free restaurants prior to making reservations. It was sweet!

Since we both grew up in the city, it was hard to pick just one or two locations that meant something to us since there were so many. We decided we wanted more of a scenic photoshoot. We wanted to show the city view and thought Portrero Hill was a perfect spot for that. We also wanted something with color so we decided on the Conservatory of Flowers in Golden Gate Park.

Josh had to trick me to get to the tidal basin. It was after work, and I was tired, but had our friend text me to say that her boyfriend was in town and they wanted to see the MLK Jr. memorial. I didn’t really want to go, but I went anyway because I hadn’t seen them in a while. We walked down along the tidal basin (perfectly timed at sunset) and I though Josh was trying to hand me back my bookbag. It turned out he was taking it off his shoulder so that he could propose…

I thought about proposing on a trip to Africa, but as it came closer the idea of carrying a diamond abroad and keeping it hidden sounded worse and worse. So I took the chance on our only free night leading up to the trip.

I remembered the morning of the proposal he wanted to show me Point Defiance in Tacoma. We arrived at the beach and began walking along the water, taking pictures; climbing over and under fallen trees along the way.

Adam had spent 23 years 363 days wondering the world aimlessly. Always knowing his other half was out there he never expected to meet her at 2 a.m after what seemed to be another pointless night of shenanigans in the fabulous city of Las Vegas.

Winter’s harsh snow storms and freezing temperatures does a few things for your relationship: gives you more snuggle time and gives you plenty of reasons to be thoroughly annoyed at your guy. Especially if you’re living together, being stuck inside for long periods of time can cause even the happiest of couples to argue over silly things.
