The Key to Finding a Work-Life Balance

How do you do it all? You’re a successful business leader, a great partner, a wonderful parent, you look good at all time, you feel fulfilled, have meaningful relationships and you still find the time for us.

Ah, it is not easy!! Although our lives are filled with new mechanical devises which are supposed to make our tasks easier to accomplish, cell phones, computers, Dvrs… the body using these tools has not changed since the beginning of man. The brain, the heart and the body has the same needs as the generations that have come before and the generations that will follow. Our emotional needs are the same —–to be loved,to feel accomplishment, to give back, to find meaning in our lives! So how do we do it all?

We listen to the simple truths that have been told to us down through the ages: I can hear my mother saying “You can’t dance at two weddings at the same time. You catch more bees with honey. You can never take back the spoken word. It takes two to tango. If everyone hung their troubles on the line you would take yours back. Happiness starts in your head. Be thankful for little things. It is better to give than receive. Be your own best friend. Be honest with yourself and others.” And the most important: “There is a Time and Place For Everything.”

Following these time tested sayings gives us a path to navigate our lives. I’ m sure there are many more and I would love to hear some that your relatives have told you. These sayings give us an insight into age old problems that are not new to any generation even when we think they are unique to our lives. We do it all by being truthful with ourselves and those around us. We set goals and try very hard to achieve them by taking care of ourselves and others, by understanding, by enjoying the roads before us, by prioritizing and by realizing that no one aspect of your life is more important than another but rather at different times in your life one aspect may require more of your time and effort. Enjoy the challenge, look for the good in every situation and remember you have one chance to play the game of life. Sometimes you move ahead, sometimes you move backward, sometimes you skip a space but in the end with patience and perseverance and commitment you will be a winner.

Dear Phyllis, Beautifully written! You are truly an inspiration to us all! I especially love your line, “There is a time and place for everything”, and it is so true in business! You have to be honest with yourself first, and then everything falls into place… This is so important in our lives, words to live by, in both love, and with family, and with dear friends and with family. You have very sage words…. You are the BEST!
    Love,
    Cheryl
