How They Met
Kestrel and Mike met while they were both performing in a theater production of Hamlet in Waimea on the big island of Hawaii. They started dating after opening night.
They went to their favorite beach, Mauna Kea, packed a picnic lunch and found a spot in the shade. He disappeared to get something out of the car, and when he came back he said he had just called Kestrel’s dad. He got down on one knee, read a beautiful poem he had written for Kestrel and proposed.
The Engagement Ring
The ring is pink sapphire (sapphire is Kestrel’s birth stone) and white gold. Mike got it at their friend Moses’ shop, Mountain Gold Jewelers, in Kawaihae. He actually told Kestrel he was going to rehearsal for a show early and instead he drove to Kawaihae to buy the ring. He had the ring for two weeks before he proposed!
