A Strawberry Picking Engagement Session

Jordan & Robert

How They Met

Robert and I met in law school. While we ran into each other at a few law school events our first year, we did not really get to know one another until our second year. At the end of the fall semester of our second year, a few chance encounters had us bumping into each other more and more. At the approach of the Christmas holiday’s, we began seeing each other more often at dinners and other social events with our friends from school.

The Proposal

Robert: I wanted to propose in a way that was unique to us. Since we like to go on walks and explore new areas I figured what better way to propose than on a walk with the dogs in a park in Atlanta that we never explored before. I went to the park a few days prior to scout out the area and knew it was perfect for us. I hid the ring in my jacket pocket and waited for an opportunity where there were as few people around and then got down on one knee. Unbeknownst to Jordan, my roommates were in on it, too, and were able to snap a few pictures of the proposal from across the field.  After talking to Jordan afterwards, neither one of us can really remember what was said.

Jordan: Robert completely surprised me with the proposal!  Just as we had explored the city where we went to law school, Robert suggested that we go on a walk at a nearby park that connected to the Beltline here in Atlanta. We already knew we loved that area of town and were excited to learn that the Beltline trail cut through the area and provided a two-mile walking trail. I had never been to Tanyard Creek Park before, and I thought we had both never been there. I failed to pick up that something was up when Robert commented at one point  “that it was busier than the other day”. The Beltline is a walking, running, and biking path that is being created around Atlanta using old railroad lines around the city. After walking all the way to one end of the trail at Tanyard Creek Park, Robert and I turned around and continued on the trail in the other direction. At one point, we passed an open field, and Robert commented that we should walk back through the field later. I didn’t think anything of it, as we had the dogs with us. On our way back through the field, Robert suddenly pulled me towards the left side of the field (towards the awkward hula hooper), but because that side of the field ran along the creek, I just followed along thinking we could walk down closer to the creek. As we approached the far side of the field, Robert said my name or said something that made me turn around, and he was down on one knee asking me to marry him. My initial question apparently was, “is this a joke”, which was quickly followed up with “of course!”.

The Engagement Session

I received my undergraduate degree at the University of Georgia, so was very familiar with Washington Farms.  Picking strawberries at Washington Farms was also something special to me, as it was something that I had done growing up with my Mimi and Nana at the Loganville location.  Robert and I love exploring new locations together and trying out new things, so when I thought about what we could do for our engagement shoot to make it fun and different, picking strawberries at Washington Farms popped in my head as an idea.  There, we could have an open area to take pictures, but have a unique twist.  As for the picnic pictures, set up our spot in an open field by the farm just before sunset for some wine and berries!

The Engagement Ring

Robert : I picked the ring based on pictures I was able to find on Jordan’s pinterest account. I then showed pictures to my mom and sister and together we found the perfect ring.

Jordan : I had no idea what to expect!  I had joked with Robert about rings in the past, but had no idea he was actually listening and paying attention.   If you checked my Pinterest board, which Robert actually did, I found out later, I had pinned all kinds of ring ideas for fun.  Apparently, of all the rings that I ‘pinned’, most had a similar thread of diamonds around the band with a single diamond in the middle.   Robert picked me out a ring exactly like many of those.

The Photographer

“Jordan & Robert are truly amazing inside and out! As a bit of a foodie, this session spoke right to my heart. As a student at The University of Georgia I used to frequent Washington Farms, so having the opportunity to shoot an engagement session there was so fun and brought me right down memory lane!”
