Downton Abbey Proposals, anyone?

If you aren’t into the British drama Downton Abbey, well, you need to be. It will make you want to drink tea and eat biscuits all the live-long day– but what’s wrong with that? This show is filled with romance, and you can take some advice from the Crawley sisters and their men when it comes to proposing.

SPOILERS ALERT!

1. Lady Mary. The first time Matthew proposed it was over sandwiches for coming to Sybil’s rescue, so I must prefer the second one. Mary even tells Matthew she’s not going to give him an answer unless he does it properly– kneeling down and everything. Matthew gets down in the snow, and of course they’re in their finest, and asks Mary to be his wife. How can you imitate this? Throw a fancy dinner party (even if it’s just for two), and in the end lead your lady outside and propose– make sure someone is hiding in the bushes with a camera!

2. Lady Edith. While the first proposal from Lord Antony Strallan didn’t happen, the idea was wonderful. I mean, who’s going to say no to a proposal at a garden party? Throw a party while the weather is still warm for your closest friends and family out on the lawn and take the opportunity to get down on one knee. You don’t have to do it in front of everyone– but be prepared to let them all know your news if you don’t!

3. Lady Sybil. Whisk your sweetie away like the handsome chauffeur Tom Branson. You may not make it to Ireland, but taking a road trip for the two of you and talking about all your hopes and dreams seems like a wonderful moment to propose.

Who’s your favorite Downton couple?
