Proposals by strange strangers…

I will never forget the night Bubba proposed to me.

And no, my fiance’s name is not Bubba.

I was 17 years old, being friendly to people after a late night church service. I had talked to Bubba once or twice before– usually just the polite “hello/how are ya?” exchange. This night though, Bubba was particularly glum. Apparently he had just proposed to his dream girl and she said no. I tried to cheer him up by giving him the generic, “There’s plenty of fish in the sea/ you’re a great guy so I’m sure any girl would be happy to marry you” talk.

Suddenly, he whipped out the ring.

“Nikki, you’re right nice. Will you please marry me?”

Slightly confused and appalled that I just got offered a second-hand reject ring only hours after the first offer to another woman, I politely told him no but thanked him all the same. He didn’t relent and was very pushy saying he really wanted me to have the diamond. Finally he gave up. I seriously didn’t know anything else about this man other than the fact that he went by the name “Bubba.”

Turns out, I’m not the only one this happens to. Check out these videos below. The first is a guy proposing to a girl he’s in love with who works at a local bowling alley and the other is of a girl greeting a guy from England who she has only IMed once. Guess what she wears to their first meeting? Yup, a wedding dress.

Just funny jokes? Possibly. But come on… you know deep down inside they hoped the other person would say “Yes!”

Have you ever been proposed to by some random stranger?

Nikki
