He Proposed Under Their First Christmas Tree

How They Met

We met at the University of Dayton, where a mutual friend set us up for a formal. We like to travel, go on walks, explore new restaurants and breweries in Chicago and spend time with our friends.

The Proposal

It was our first Christmas living together and we spent a lot of time decorating for the holidays, and were very proud of our first home and tree and it felt like the perfect place and time of year to make a memory.

My parents arranged a surprise party with our friends and family at the Metropolitan Club in the Willis Tower.  I was told we were going to my dad’s work Christmas party so we had to dress up for the occasion.  As soon as I got ready, John asked me to walk towards him by the tree so he could see my outfit.  He told me I looked great but I was missing one thing.  Then he dropped to a knee and popped the question. Luckily, I had just gotten a fresh red manicure not knowing about the surprise. Then we left for the “work party” to find all of our friends and family waiting for us with champagne to toast our engagement.

The Engagement Session

We decided to do the engagement session there because we had a trip planned with a group of friends to go skiing in Big Sky, Montana. We loved the unique the location! We live in Chicago and love it, but the scenery of Big Sky is hard to beat.

The Engagement Ring

I always admired my Yia-yia’s (grandmother) and Mom’s rings and hoped to get one just  like theirs. John told Daniel Levy our jeweler his vision while getting the approval of my mom to make sure it fit the pattern of the other rings in the family. I thought I had hinted the style that I liked but the ring exceeded all of my expectations. My ring is platinum and the center stone is an ideal cut diamond with two baguettes on either side.
