Another solution is to buy the diamond first, and then after the proposal you two can pick out the ring setting together. Trust me, you have it easy. Most women love surprises!

I think the answer is pretty spot on. I like the idea of buying the diamond first and then picking out the setting later. I never heard that one before.
I don’t like the idea of being proposed to with just the diamond. If she doesn’t like surprises, then just go ahead and pick out the ring together. That way she has the whole ring at the time of the proposal, that way she can brag and show off the ring right away instead of waiting on you to then take her to the jewelry store to pick out a setting she already had in mind.
