John Kennedy’s Sweet Proposal

Picture 79

"Fairy Tale Interrupted" details the life of John F. Kennedy, including his relationship and proposal with Carolyn Bessette.

Fairy Tale Interrupted: A Memoir of Love, Life, and Loss by Rosemarie Terenzio hits the shelves this month detailing her life as the assistant to John F. Kennedy Jr. However, the book isn’t all just political recap. Terenzio even dishes out the intimate details she knew about the Kennedys, including his proposal to Carolyn Bessette.

John John Kennedy’s perfect proposal involved taking Bessette out on the water while they were staying at Martha’s Vineyard. He had told her they were going out fishing. Bessette was less than thrilled. “I wanted to go fishing like I wanted to cut off my right arm.” Carolyn said.

Terenzio remembers every detail, including what Bessette said after the proposal in 1995: “He asked me to marry him out on the water.” she said “It was so sweet. He told me , ‘Fishing is so much better with a partner’.”

Kennedy was able to make a fishing proposal turn out romantic . It is both sweet and sad to see that this fairy-tale couple enjoyed some very romantic times before tragedy stroke. For more details on Kennedy’s life, check out “Fairy Tale Interrupted.”

Jennifer Hudson gives her man an engagement ring too

Jennifer Hudson has already been relishing in her birthday proposal from boyfriend-turned-fiance David Otunga. But now she on to proposal number TWO (and not because she has another fiance).

Apparently after Otunga put the sparkly on Hudson’s finger, he was feeling a bit of ring envy. But he did bring up a valid point, asking his new fiance, “You have a ring. How are they going to know I’m taken?”

So what does Hudson do? She buys her man a ring and proposes to him on HIS BIRTHDAY too! Genius.

The funny thing is, my own fiance said the same thing on a couple of occasions (one of which being last week!). I even brought up an idea like this, however, he claims he doesn’t want to wear a ring before his wedding band. So what’s a girl to do? Would love some advice on this one. I’m definitely getting mixed signals.

What do you think: Would you propose to your fiance so he can wear a ring too?

A Lego Love Story

More and more, modern grooms are finding ways to uniquely express their love when popping the question. I think this little video takes the cake for most adorable proposal ever. All other 2012 proposals have a lot to live up to.

Walt Thompson, an Atlanta filmmaker, spent two days taking photos for a stop-animation film portraying how he and his girlfriend of four years, Nealey Dozier met and fell in love. Thompson even said he found matching Lego outfits that resembled the clothes he and Nealey wore when they first met. The short film also has a scene where Nealey, a food blogger, is preparing experimental food while he takes photos of her. And of course, the film ends with a Lego wedding ceremony where the groom is holding a ring.

After the words, “Will you marry me?” flashed across the screen, Walt dropped a knee and opened a box with the Lego bride and groom. Of course, the groom was holding a ring.

Talk about going all out. Of course Nealey said “Yes!” and they’re planning for a spring 2013 wedding.

Check out their video below!

Creative proposal tries to win contest

I’m a sucker for two things: romantic stories and contests.

This lovely couple has a great story for you. The guy, Micah, first blindfolds his girlfriend, Rachel, and then leads her to a small airplane which he flies over their favorite beach and parks. (Yes, this groom can fly his own plane! How cool is that?). He lands on an “airstrip” in a field he mowed himself where an upright piano is sitting randomly. He then plays one of her favorite songs, The Scientist by Coldplay, but sings it with revised words to make it all about her.

Here’s a youtube montage of the day with the song he sings in the background. Skip ahead to 2:30 for actual footage of the proposal.

The best part? This cute proposal is entered in the BestForBride.com contest. They’re hoping to win $1000 gift certificate toward a bridal and bridesmaids dresses.  As a winner of a wedding related contest with my Simon G. engagement ring in December 2010, I know how much of a blessing winning something like that can be. If you found this proposal as romantic as I did, please click the link below and vote for this couple. Spread the word!

5 New Year’s Resolutions for the Newly Engaged

Typically at this point in the New Year, many of us have already given up on our New Year’s resolutions. However, it’s not too late to make some new ones. Why not make some specifically for this time during your engagement?

1) I will not take this period in my life for granted.

With planning for the upcoming wedding, it’s easy to ignore being engaged. Make a resolution to try to savor the moment. Just because you’re engaged doesn’t mean you can’t still go on super, romantic dates. Try to keep the romance alive by visiting places from your first dates. And when the year mark rolls around for some of you, celebrate your proposal.

2) I will not ignore the important parts of wedding planning.

Sure, picking out your bridesmaids and your wedding favors are the fun part, and words like “guest list” and “deposit” make you shudder. However, resolve not to jump the gun on the wedding planning the moment the ring gets on your finger. Make sure to do the important things first like set the date and the guest list before you start picking your colors and flowers.

3) I will not replace my fiance with wedding plans.

Yes, being engaged is exciting. But don’t forget why you’re engaged in the first place. Trust us, your fiance loves you and wants to marry you– but he’s not going to want your relationship to turn into wedding planning central. Resolve to make time for your fiance, wedding-free.

4) Get to know each other’s families.

You’re both about start your own family, but don’t forget you’re joining each other’s now too. Make an effort to really get to know your in-laws. Plan family dinners and game nights. It’ll cut down on some of the family drama as it gets closer to the wedding.

5) Insure the ring!

Easily forgotten, but this little detail can prevent a whole world of problems and heartache. Make sure you guys take time to protect your new symbol of love. After all, diamonds are forever– unless it gets stolen, falls down the drain, or fido eats it.

What do you think: What is your resolution for the New Year?

That’s right! Our favorite famous singer is joyfully engaged. Aretha Franklin is  69 years old and yup– she still has it! She’ll be marrying longtime friend William “Willie” Wilkerson.

Wilkerson popped the question on Miami Beach. Franklin says she is hoping for a summer wedding.

But in case you were getting any funny ideas about her wedding being so soon, she assured jokingly to the Associated Press that she was indeed not pregnant.

What a wonderful way to end engagement seasons peak over the holidays!

Isn’t it wonderful that you can still believe in love after 70 years of trying to find a soulmate (and probably struggling to find the One)?

Which celebrities popped the question for Christmas?

Christmas time is a busy time of year– and not just because of the presents. Engagements seem to be popping up left and right wherever you go from friends, strangers to– yes, also the rich and famous. Here’s which celebs took the next steps in their relationship this holiday season.

Wynonna Judd & Cactus Moser
Judd, 47, got engaged to her fellow musician boyfriend of two years on Christmas Eve. However, other than the time, no other details have been released about how he asked her to marry him– not even a picture of the ring! Where’s the Christmas joy, Wynonna?

Danny Gokey & Leyicet Peralta
Country music star and American Idol Season-8 finalist announced their wedding date on Tuesday! They will be enjoying wedded bliss on January 29th. What a great way to start out the New Year! However, Gokey made a classic error, according to People magazine, and accidentally sized her ring too big. Whoops!

Chris O’Dowd & Dawn Porter
Actor O’Dowd will be saying the big “I Do” to his British TV personality girlfriend. He proposed the day after Christmas while they were on an island vacation. I must say…the day after Christmas? That’s mighty clever in my opinion. She probably wasn’t expecting a thing. And of course, what engagement would be complete with out the “romantic” engagement tweet? O’Dowd tweeted: “I’m so bored of all this happiness and sex. I’m getting married.”

Merry Marriages to all our Christmas Celebs (And you as well)!
