Engagement Ring Cake
Check out this gorgeous cake shaped to look like an engagement ring inside a ring box. It almost looks like the real thing. I’m always amazed at what people can do with cakes these days, but other times I’m a little frightened. [Photo from GirlyBubble]
New Virtual Ring Try-on by Tacori
To celebrate the launch of Tacori‘s new color collection, for three days only the jewelry manufacturer is installing an interactive virtual try-on booth at Bloomingdale’s on 59th street (sorry, non-New Yorkers). The “Try It On” booth will allow shoppers to virtually try on all the rings from Tacori’s new collection in real time via a large video screen. Shoppers will be able to see themselves wearing Tacori rings without having to go through the physical trouble of going to a counter and trying one on.
“Shoppers today are busy, and sometimes don’t have the time or inclination to wait at a jewelry counter for a sales person to help them try on the ‘below the counter’ items they desire,” Paul Tacorian, SVP of Sales and Marketing for TACORI, said in a press release. “Our virtual ‘Try It On’ experience allows clients the fun and instant gratification of trying on beautiful gems, and customizing their style to quickly find what Tacori 18k925 design they like best.”
The virtual try-on booth will only be available December 10-12 at Bloomingdales. For those who don’t live in New York or don’t feel like battling with holiday shoppers (wouldn’t blame you), you can check out the web version of the virtual try-on here (www.tacori.com/tryiton).
12 Ways to Pop the Question This Season
The majority of marriage proposals take place between November and December, which is why around this time of year Robbins Brothers likes to release its annual “12 Ways to Pop the Question this Holiday Season” list. This year’s list contains ideas such as hiding the ring in an ornament box, jet setting to Disneyland, and spelling “Will you marry me?” with Christmas lights. Check out the complete list below. Idea #12 is our favorite; which one is yours?
- Take her to see Santa. Have Santa tell her she’s on his nice list, then drop to one knee and surprise her with the engagement ring.
- Hire a group of Christmas carolers to sing in front of her doorstep, and change the chorus of “We Wish You a Merry Christmas” to “Will You Marry ‘Michael’?”
- Hide the engagement ring in an ornament box and hang it from the tree on Christmas Eve, with a note instructing her to open it.
- Enlist the help of neighbors to spell out “Will You Marry Me?” in Christmas lights on her front lawn.
- If your town has a holiday parade, get the girl scouts or high school marching band to unroll a banner with your marriage proposal as they walk down the street.
- Love Disneyland? The theme park’s decorations make any place inside a perfect place to propose.
- Escape from the stress of the city and get away to a romantic hotel or cabin. Propose to her under the stars.
- Get each member of your families to hand her a piece from a custom puzzle during your big dinner or dessert. The completed puzzle will be a picture of you proposing.
- If flying together is on the agenda in December, ask the crew to let you use the P/A system to propose when you’re in the air.
- Ask your local appliance store for a big empty box that would hold an unromantic item: microwave oven, vacuum, even a refrigerator. Wrap it like it’s the best appliance a girl could ever want. She’ll be thrilled when she finds the little tiny ring box after digging through the foam, newspapers and other filler.
- Find a local ranch or village that offers horse-drawn carriage or sleigh rides. A good old-fashioned way to propose.
- Too nervous to propose at Christmas in a public way? Ask her to marry you on New Year’s Eve, with just the two of you and a bottle of champagne as the clock strikes midnight.
Behind Snooki's Engagement Ring
The Jersey Shore star, who was spotted wearing a mysterious ring a few weeks ago, took to YouTube to clear the air. Snooki says in her video: “I’m not getting engaged! Get real!” She explains that she’s wearing the ring on her ring finger because she wants to get married someday, but not anytime soon. The 23-year-old said, preferably, she would like to wait until she’s 30.
Wearing a fake engagement ring is nothing new, and for a lot of women it’s a way of making a fantasy into reality. When we announced the winner of our Tacori giveaway earlier this year, a lot of you were upset that the ring went to a single, not-engaged winner (the winner says she wears the ring hoping it’ll lead to a real engagement). But we don’t see the harm in a little bit of make believe. Sometimes visualizing what you want can lead to the real thing. What do you think?
The $1500 iPhone Marriage Proposal
An Australian man who wanted to pull off the perfect proposal spent thousands of dollars to develop a custom iPhone app to propose to his girlfriend of three years. Idelkhani, a 26-year-old computer security engineer, hired a programmer to develop an iPhone app. He then gave an iPhone to his girlfriend, Melody, and told her to follow the instructions in the app.
The app was a scavenger hunt that led her around town to important landmarks that defined their relationship. After Melody traveled to each landmark, she was promoted to the next level of the game, which was broadcast in real time via Facebook so that friends and family could watch her progress.
The last and final level of the game prompted her to visit the bedroom where she found a teddy bear that had the note, “Will you marry me?” inside.
“Inside it was a note that I put in there three years ago, which was a message saying: ‘Will you marry me?’,” he told News.com.au. “I gave it to her within the first six months of when we started formally dating. We’d been friends for about five years before that. I was confident that she was the one so I planted that in there just in case. I was pretty confident it would happen, but if it didn’t it would be hidden in there forever anyway.”
Wow. But due to the over-the-top proposal, Idelkhani is making sure the wedding, however, is low key. The two are planning a private, outdoor ceremony.

HOT TOPIC: Getting Engaged During the Holidays
Since tomorrow is Thanksgiving, tomorrow officially starts “engagement season.” In case you haven’t noticed those commercials for Kay Jewelers and Zales being played around the clock, this is the time of year where people get engaged the most. After all, it’s the holidays, and it’s the one time out of the year where friends and family are together in one place.
So, needless to say, it’s probably the best time to announce an engagement. Notice how I said “announce” and not “get engaged.” These days holiday proposals are a tad cliched. It’s much better to get engaged before the holidays and then announce it to family and friend during the holidays. Do you agree or disagree?
