Missed New Years? You Can Still Plan An Awesome Proposal!

Why not make a personalized calendar for your proposal?

Proposal season has finally come to a close as Christmas ends and the New Year begins. But just because probably a bazillion people you know seemed to all get engaged the past couple of weeks, that does not mean you’ve completely missed the train on the perfect proposal. The New Year brings new possibilities! Plus you can still have a New Year themed wedding despite doing it after the ball dropped at midnight. The best part? You increase your surprise factor by waiting until now to do it!

1. The Resolution Failure
Act super bummed about something until she asks you what’s wrong. Tell her that there’s some resolutions you’re not sure you’re going to be able to keep and that you’re already slacking on some of them. You haven’t been running as much. You ate pizza for the third night in a row. Oh, and you don’t think you can succeed at being a bachelor anymore. Wait what? Tell her that marrying her is better than any resolution you could ever make or break and you want to start this year off with an even stronger relationship.

2. Propose on Three Kings Day (January 6th)
Even if you don’t typically celebrate this holiday, it could make for a great proposal. On January 6th, Three Kings Day is celebrated as the day the wise men made their way to see baby Jesus. Kids sometimes lay out hay for camels to snack on and get three presents by “the wise men”. Surprise her by celebrating this year with three presents. Two presents could be whatever you want them to be (maybe clues even), though making them similar to frankincense  and myrrh (aka. some kind of perfume or incense) might be nice as well. Then the third gift? Gold of course! That’s when you pop the question with your gorgeous ring.

3. Make her a Calendar
Personalized calendars are always fun (and usually discounted by now because it’s after Christmas!). Make one full of the things she loves and especially with pictures of the two of you. When you personalize calendars, you can usually have them print special, personal days. Have your proposal already marked on the calendar as the day you give her the calendar. As she flips through, if she missed it, have her go back to January. She’ll be confused as she tries to figure out what that day says, but by the time she does, you’re already on your knee.

Best (and Simplest) Places to Propose in the Cold

Ever consider writing your proposal in the snow?

Brrr! It’s getting chilly out here as January fast approaches. Take advantage of this cooler weather and propose in a way that’ll warm her from the inside out.

1. By the Fire

Nothing is quite as romantic as cuddling in front of the fire. Spend a romantic even cuddled up on the couch in front of the fire. Don’t have a fireplace? Never fear! You can either buy a DVD of a fireplace  or even use your xBox or Wii to access youtube on your TV and use the below link as a faux fireplace. Break out the hot cocoa, popcorn, or maybe even a romantic dinner for two. It’s a simple way to set the mood before asking the question of a lifetime.

For those with fake fireplaces….

2. On the Ice

Ice skating is one of those dates that brings back the simpler times that even modern day people crave. Whether she knows how to ice skate like a pro or not, surprise her with a date of hand holding (and maybe wobbling and falling) on the ice. You’ll laugh the whole time, definitely making memories you’ll never forget. Then, out there on the rink, get down on one knee (if you can!) and pop the question. It’ll be the perfect ending to the perfect day.

3. Give her your coat

Chivalry isn’t dead yet. Go on a romantic walk, or even a casual stroll, and regardless of whether or not she seems chilly, take off your coat and wrap it around her. Don’t even ask. If she puts up a fight or even if she simply says “thank you,” tell her to check the pocket. She’ll pull out the ring box and to her surprise, find a gorgeous diamond sparkling back at her. By the time she looks at you, you’ll already be on your knee.

4. The traditional horse and carriage ride

While some may argue it’s cliche, we still think it’s one of the cutest ways to propose that a lot of girls will be heads over heels for– especially when the weather is nippy outside. Cuddle under the blanket as your old-timey carriage takes you through beautifully lit downtowns and parks. Going at night also adds a special touch as you’ll have to cuddle even closer due to the cold and you have the beautiful stars overhead. If that doesn’t set the scene for romance, we don’t know what does.

5. Playing in the snow

Do more than walk in your Winter Wonderland this December and January. Bring out your inner child and work a snow ball fight or even snow man building into your proposal. Not only will she love seeing this carefree side of you, but she’ll be completely caught off guard. So make that snow angel like you’re 6 years old again, and ask your own personal angel to be your wife.

Christmas Morning Proposal

Merry Christmas from all of us here at Engagement 101! We hope your Christmas is extra special and filled with love (and maybe even a proposal for you too?).

As you spend time with your family and loved ones today, we thought we’d share this funny little proposal where a guy wraps up his bride-to-be’s engagement ring as a present. You know it’s funny if the Mom holding the video camera has to direct the groom-to-be on what to do. Thankfully, he got down on his knees eventually and his lady seemed very happy.

Did you get engaged over this Christmas season? Let us know!

Man Proposes on 12/12/12

Crystal Hardt was proposed to at 12:12 p.m. on 12/12/12. Check out her beautiful ring!

December 12, 2012 was the last date with repetitive numbers that we’ll see in our lifetimes. And as a result, many people headed to wedding chapels everywhere in hopes that this special date would bring them good luck in their marriages. However, for other couples who weren’t quite ready for that step yet, 12/12/12 marked the day that everything would change.

Check out this guy’s marriage proposal to this girlfriend at 12:12 p.m. on 12/12/12. He wanted to do something she wouldn’t suspect, so he involved her favorite weather channel people because The Weather Network is a part of her daily routine apparently. So, she was surprised by one of their TV personalities knocking on her door. They presented her with a pair of gloves for being a “fan,” but then gestured with the mic toward her man to give him a moment to speak. He wrote a special poem to propose and she of course said “yes!”

For this couple, it wasn’t all about luck when choosing the date to propose. Apparently 12 is their lucky number in their relationship. They met in December (the 12th month), had their first kiss on the 12th, and the list goes on. It only seemed fitting that on a day of twelves, he would pop the question.

But we’d like to think that 12/12/12 will give them good luck too. Especially at 12:12 p.m.! That takes some great planning to nail that one down.

Did you get engaged on 12/12/12? Let us know your story!

How to Propose During Hanukkah

Happy First day of Hanukkah! But why not make these next eight days extra special for your future-wife-to-be. Here are some tips on how to make this Hanukkah the one she’ll never forget.

1) Write her a special note each day, leading up to the last
Each night of Hanukkah, give your lady a special love note expressing how much you love her. Or, maybe make each one a different riddle to tip her off (or throw her off) what is to come. On the last day, write the love note of all notes and get down on one knee in front of all your friends and family.

2)  Propose during a game of Dreidel
While you guys play a game that takes you back to the best times of your childhood during the holidays, plan your proposal when she least expects. Maybe partway through when she lands on Gimel and gets really excited that she gets take the whole pot, make a comment about how she really has taken everything, even your heart. Show her the ring and pop the question. She’ll never see it coming!

3) Give her a new, special menorah
Has she talked about what kind of menorah she wants when she celebrates Hanukkah with her future family? Find one with your monogram on it? Personalize it with the date and your names? Buy her the menorah of her dreams and give her a speech about how you can’t wait to spend many years making memories with your family. She’ll be touched by the thoughtfulness but confused about where you’re going with this speech, until you get down on one knee that is.

Using a Self-Published Book in Your Proposal

Self-publishing is definitely on the rise in the book world, but lucky for you, that means you just have another means to pull off an incredible proposal. This is especially perfect if she’s a bookworm.

1) Write her a book of poems

If you’re a sentimental guy who loves writing poetry, and she’s the lady who loves what you write, why not dedicate a whole book of your most romantic prose for her? It’s easy to get a collection printed, just make sure you dedicate it to her in the first page. Not only is it a great gift on it’s own, but it’s a wonderful keepsake for her to remember the day you proposed.

2) Write a Choose-Your-Own-Adventure Book starring HER!

Are you a fun couple always looking for a good time? Does she have a love of books? Why not marry the two (pun intended) and write a choose-you-own-adventure novel like the kind you used to read as a child and make ever ending lead to the big moment. She’ll think it’s hilarious and awesome.

3) Write a Book about Your Relationship
The guy in the video below used a book called “The Story of Queen Vanilla Bean and Her Count Chocolate Crunch” to propose to his girlfriend in Barnes & Noble. This book, which obviously sounds like a children’s book, is actually about the couple themselves. Look how surprised and excited she is!

Self-publishing is easy with the help of numerous websites like Lulu.com and CreateSpace.com. Google it today!
