Groundhog Day Proposal Ideas

This may be an obscure holiday that not many people pay attention to, but I’ve always loved the concept of Groundhog Day. I mean, six more weeks of winter or spring, which will it be? Funny thing is, there are quite a few ways to get creative with your proposal for this! Here are three ideas.

1. Morning Wake-up Call. Groundhog Day is on a Monday this year (February 2nd). Surprise your sweetie by showing up at her place or waking early and preparing her breakfast. Watch the ceremony on the TV together and after Phil has seen his shadow or not, ask her if she’ll not only spend those six weeks of [insert season here] with you, but the rest of her life. Talk about a great way to start the week!

2. Movie Night. Spend the evening cozied in whether you’re expecting more spring or winter and watch the classic Groundhog Day movie starring Bill Murray. When he’s talking to the character Annie while she’s sleeping, expressing his love to her and the fact that he’d love to spend the rest of his life with her, take that opportunity to pause the movie and do the same, but with that ring you bought her!

3. Winter or Spring. Watch the Groundhog Day events in the morning to find out if you’re expecting spring or winter. Whichever season it may be, surprise your sweetie with her house decorated in fake snowflakes or flowers, or give her a basket full of goodies for the upcoming season. Expecting winter? Buy her some new gloves, cocoa, ice scraper– anything that’s appropriate for where you live and she may be needing. What about spring? Buy her some new sunglasses, Easter candy (trust me, you’ll be able to find some), and a bouquet of flowers! Whichever you decide to do, make sure to work that ring and proposal into the mix!

Are you hoping for more winter or an early spring?

Singapore Changi Airport Flashmob

John wanted to propose to Melissa in a romantic and memorable way. What better way to do that than work with Singapore Glee Studios and Singapore Show Choir Academy to make an amazing flashmob?

Nearly eight minutes of singing when her boyfriend mysteriously disappears to go to the bathroom, she soon has to know what’s going on because she’s being lead from where she was seated. He finally comes back on to the seen around 6:30, and starts his romantic speech around 8:00.

Personally, I love that he wrote everything down he wanted to say. It’s so easy to let your nerves get the best of you in a stressful situation and forget all the sweet, romantic things you had planned. Congratulations to the happy couple!

Custom Flip Book for Proposal

Aidan wanted to propose to his girlfriend Maria using a flip book, which is such a cool and unique idea. So he got on and did some research and found this artist at TheFlippist.com.

Ben is the artist who does this amazing work, and has flip books of all kinds on his site.

This is such a unique idea, and somewhat of a dying art if you ask me. Since Ben does custom orders, you could use just about anything unique to your relationship for your proposal and just present it to her like it’s no big deal. How sweet would that be?

For another flip book proposal, check out the one below!

New Year’s Eve Proposals

New Year’s Eve is a prime night for proposing! Here’s a roundup of my three favorite videos.

1. NYC Proposal. Thanks to Mastercard, these two lovebirds got to spend their NYE in NYC, and then get a free honeymoon out of it! Talk about a time to remember.

2. Guy with hashtags. Super sweet boyfriend goes to place he’s going to propose beforehand to record a message just for his sweetie, Angie. Personally, the hashtags make the proposal for me. They’re too funny not to read.

3. Lit up Proposal. Kaydren definitely got a surprise when she was called on stage to ‘help with something’ since she was volunteering for the evening. When the screens around her lit up with her boyfriend’s proposal, there was no way she could get away without saying, “Yes!”

Mason Jar Proposal [Craft]

There are many uses for mason jars, but this is a new idea I couldn’t pass up sharing. Whether you do this for Valentine’s Day or just any day, it’s bound to get you a, “Yes!”

Step One: Decorate the Jar

Decorate your mason jar. Whether it’s with pictures, quotes, stickers, or just paper so she can’t really see what’s inside, but your creative skills to the test. It doesn’t have to be perfect, but she’ll appreciate it more than just getting a glass jar. Plus, she can save it and use it for other things later!

Step Two: Fill the jar with notes

You don’t have to completely fill up the jar. In fact, if you want her to go through them with you sitting there it’s probably better if you don’t. Fill it with meaningful notes that tell her just how much she means to you. If you’re doing this on Valentine’s Day, you can buy Valentine’s or make the paper into heart shapes. With these notes you can include one that says, “Will You Marry Me?”

Alternative: If you don’t want to use notes, you can always buy large popsicle sticks. Easier to get out of the jar, and still just as cute! Paint the popsicle sticks different colors.

Step Three: Decide about the ring

You could put the ring on the note that proposes to her, or put the box in the jar if it’s well covered, or keep the ring yourself and wait for her to stumble across the note that asks her the big question. Whatever you decide, it’s going to be a good decision.

Good luck!

Creative Winter Proposals

The new year is just around the corner, and we’re about to hit a six week lull before Valentine’s Day. So if you want to propose while there’s still a chill in the air, and free of the holiday pressure, here are three ideas just for you.

1. Cabin in the Woods. Whether you’re staying in the middle of nowhere or a ski resort, getting away to a private place that offers a fireplace to cozy in front of and quality one-on-one time is a perfect idea. Plus, now that the holidays are over, you should have a better chance of getting a little bit better of a deal!

2. Write it out. You can put your message in candles, the snow, or with good ‘ole sidewalk chalk. Whatever the case, get outdoors and enjoy the crisp air before the humidity sets in (if that’s how it is where you are!). You can round a corner and all of a sudden there your proposal is for her to see! Just make sure that if you write it in the snow, you do it just before you propose and somewhere no one else will stumble upon it.

3. Ice Skating, Sledding, Etc. You don’t have to have a fancy ski resort to go to to enjoy sledding down a hill or strapping on a pair of ice skates. If you remember, Luke from Gilmore Girls built Lorelei an ice skating rink in her yard. Now that’s commitment! Take a hint from him and get her outside and doing something just before you pop the question.

Keep the mood going even though the holidays have ended! There should always be a reason to celebrate the love you have with your significant other,

NYC Times Square Flash Mob Proposal

Just when we thought we were done with “Marry Me” flash mob proposals, one Scottish pro soccer player has us rethinking if that’s really necessary or not.

Goalkeeper Sean got down on one knee in Times Square to propose to his now-fiance, Charissa, with the help of some talented dancers from New York City’s Broadway Dance  Center.

Sean, who is currently training with New York City FC, joins in at one point (1:50) and tries ever-so-hard to keep up with the other dancers. Talk about commitment!

I love Charissa’s reaction. It really takes her a moment, even after Sean has joined in on the dancing, to realize what’s happening.

I wonder if whenever a “Marry Me” flashmob happens, every girl with a boyfriend stops and wonders if he’s going to be the one to propose. It’d be hard not to, wouldn’t it?

Homecoming Christmas Proposal

Jon went away to basic training for the Air Force, leaving behind his girlfriend Emma. When the two had time to talk on the phone, they knew they wanted to get married when he got back, so he proposed over the phone in October. However, he didn’t count that as a “proper” proposal.

So, when Jon was coming home, Emma got a special gateway pass so she could go through security and meet Jon at the gate. While she thought she was the one surprising him, Jon had gotten the Delta crew to help him out with his official proposal. He had passengers hand out roses to Emma as they got off the plane, including flight attendants, and then he was the last one off with roses and chocolates in hand. After handing her surprises and a note, he dropped to one knee (2:20).

Sure, the two were “already engaged”, but there’s something about it happening over the phone or internet and then having it happen in person. And who doesn’t tear up during moments like these? I mean, he’s coming home after training for 100 days and surprising the love of his life with something she’ll never forget. I’d say that’s a total win.

A special thanks and shout out to all the men and women who serve our country.

Favorite Celebrity Engagements of 2014

We all have our fave celebrity couples, but when they finally decide to take the next step and become engaged (and make it to marriage), there’s something that makes me just a tad bit giddy. I’m assuming it’s the same for the rest of you. So, here were my top four favorite engagements of 2014.

1. George Clooney & Amal Alamuddin. We know this couple already made it to the aisle in September, but remember they just got engaged in April! Everyone was shocked when the number one bachelor or Hollywood finally decided to settle down. Obviously he was just waiting for the right woman, and I think Amal will definitely give him a run for his status.

2. Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis. Jack and Kelso, together at last! This truly just makes me way too happy. I absolutely love that Ashton and Mila finally ended up together, and welcomed a baby at that!

3. Johnny Depp and Amber Heard. After Johnny had his split from former love Vanessa Paradis, never making it down the aisle even though the pair shared two kids, it’s no wonder he wants to put a ring on Amber Heard. Though theres a 23 year age gap between the two, it doesn’t seem to hinder their love or finally shining in the public’s eyes. I mean, if you were Amber Heard, odds are at some point you were crushing on Johnny when you were young. Who can blame her for going for it?!

4. Benedict Cumberbatch and Sophie Hunter. This is my absolute favorite, because not only was the couple keeping things private and never appearing together, but they didn’t make a big deal about announcing their engagement. How did they do it? In the traditional way: they announced it in the London Times. Benedict is everything that surrounds the word classy, and this just made it even more official.

What was your favorite celeb engagement of 2014?

Favorite Proposal “Fails” of 2014

I think only one of these is truly a “fail” because it’s just like… that did NOT happen, right? The other two are just unfortunate, and in my book if you dump a bucket of guck on someone’s head, that’s not a good proposal. So, from “best” to worst, here are my favorite three of the year.

1. Giant Wave Interruption. Now, the guy still got a yes out of this proposal, but there’s nothing like a giant wave coming at you to interrupt the moment. Of course, that’s what happens. You can’t control the elements!

2. Prank Proposal. Nothing like getting ready for a hot date to have a bucket of yuck dumped on your head. I’m not sure I would’ve cared if someone had been waiting on one knee for me after that, I would’ve gone right back into the bathroom and cried/gotten pretty again before coming out and saying yes. I would want to make him think I was too mad to accept. Just me.

3. Boat Fumble. And, the absolute best fail of the year. If proposing on a boat, do not take the ring out until it’s going straight on her finger. Don’t give her a chance to knock it out of your hand, whether in the box or not. Because, well, you may just lose it for good.

Do you have a different favorite fail?
