May the 4th (Be With You) Proposal Ideas

With Star Wars VII approaching, there’s no way to diminish the excitement of the force. So if you feel like celebrating this fandom with your sweetie, here are a couple proposal ideas to keep it in the galaxy far, far away….

1. A Droid for her finger. There’s nothing more romantic than giving her R2D2 as an engagement ring, am I right? This gorgeous one can be found on Custom Made and isn’t out of this world with its price, either!

2. Movie Marathon! What better way to get rid of the Monday blues than to opt for an all-nighter with Episodes I-VI? I know, I know… 1-3 aren’t the best… but you have to get into the spirit to prep for Episode VII! Snuggle up with your light sabers and yoda impressions and when Han and Leia are having a moment, create a moment for the two of you and propose!

3. Quotes, please. Use a favorite quote from the movie to propose and see if she catches on! If not, have a special stuffed Yoda or something to go with the ring so she catches your drift. “Do or do not, there is no ‘try’.” I DO!

4. Fantasy. Does she have a favorite scene, or moment, or…er… role-play from the movie? Dress up as her favorite hero (even if that means putting on some fur) and let her know just how much she means to you before pulling out that ring for your proposal!

Unbeatable Surprise Proposal

Eric was planning on proposing to Amethyst. She had no idea. All she knew was that it was going to be another typical day of work… until he told her she had four hours to get ready for her dream vacation– going to Hawaii.

So now she thinks this is the surprise, right? She’s getting a dream vacation that he’s already handled all the details for. How romantic is that? Well, at 2:12 of the video you watch as Eric gets down on one knee. Amethyst is so shocked, she gets down on his level with him after a moment– in the dirt and all. Leading her to a secluded spot to look at the ocean with someone playing guitar to serenade them so they can dance… doesn’t that just SCREAM proposal?

I just can’t believe that guys actually pull this off. Whisk their significant others away for a romantic vacation and proposal. Everyone deserves this kind of love!

Mother’s Day Proposal Ideas

Mother’s Day is only two weeks away. If you’re in a relationship with a single mother, or haven’t taken the plunge with the mother of your child(ren) yet, here are a couple ideas on how to propose!

1. Involve the Kids. Whether you dress the children in “Will You Marry Daddy?” shirts (or put your name instead of “daddy” if they’re not yours), or have them hold the signs for the proposal, it will make the occasion so much more memorable. Remember to celebrate her as MOM on this day as much as you want to make her WIFE.

2. Day Off. Treat her to a day at the spa, or a movie by herself– whatever her heart’s content. While she’s away, get the house ready for the proposal. Clean, decorate, cook, bake– do it all. When she comes home, surprise her with a heartfelt speech about how amazing she is for being such a mother, and would she add to the list and become your wife?

3. Propose to Mom & Kids. It isn’t easy changing the ways of a family. Make the proposal extra special and don’t only propose to the mom, but propose to the kids as well. Speak their “love language” and if she has a girl, give her some piece of jewelry as well. Boys? Maybe appeal to their need for a father in some way (baseball gloves, if they’re into that, or something you can do just the pair of you as well). Propose to the mom first, of course, but don’t leave out the kids in the event.

Billboard Proposal

When Paul decided to propose to Tara, he wanted to do it big. So he gathered all their friends and family for the reveal of a billboard. While I have a pretty good idea they knew what was going on, I’d like to know what story he got Tara there under.

As soon as the billboard is revealed, though, you see her coming forward with tears in her eyes (attempting to walk on the grass in those heels). The fact that all their friends and family are there to celebrate the occasion is great, plus the photographer grabbing shots of the two in front of the billboard.

The weather wasn’t on their side, but at least that makes for even more of a story!

Kite-Flying Proposal Ideas

Spring is in the air and on windy days there’s nothing better than getting out and letting your inner-child fly. And by that I mean fly a kite, of course. So how do you turn this magical experience into an even more romantic one and tie a proposal into it? Here are three ideas!

1. Write it in the Sky. Ask your girl to meet you at a specific spot to have a fun spring day. Plan a picnic, but get the kite in the air before she gets there. On the kite have the words, “Marry Me?” written clearly across it, flying in the sky. When she arrives, and realizes you’re the one holding the kite, there’s no way she’ll be able to say no. Just make sure to weigh it down and not let go of that keepsake in the midst of the excitement!

2. Weigh it down. Tie a dummy-ring to the tail of the kite, giving it the weight it needs to balance. When you ask her to run with the kite, she’ll see that ring and pause. That’s you’re moment to get down on one knee with the real ring and pop the question.

3. Waving Words. Tie ribbons to the kite string with loving words, stories, memories, pictures– whatever you can think of–and have them waving in the sky when she arrives. You can then let her take hold of the kite and reel it in, looking at the wonderful creation you’ve put together. When she gets to the actual kite, maybe have your proposal written on it in some way that wasn’t so obvious from the sky!

As always, make this fun. Don’t be stressed if something goes wrong. It all makes for a grand story!

Flight Attendant Proposal

Tim wanted to propose to his girlfriend, Victoria. However, surprising a flight attendant isn’t all that easy. After all, she has a crazy schedule when she’s on the clock, and there’s no guarantee of catching her at the right moment. So, it took some planning.

As the video starts we get a glimpse at what Tim has lined up. Workers at the airport, coworkers of Victoria’s, are lined up with signs from Tim. When we finally see Victoria start her walk through the airport (1:25) she looks absolutely stunned, which is a win for Tim. She keeps asking her coworkers, who have cameras and phones out, what’s going on. So she followed the signs, and assuming when she sees the “Marry” after “Will” and “You” she starts to get teary-eyed.

At the end of the road are two Starbucks employees (assumption from the green aprons) holding signs that say, “This” “Guy??” pointing to Tim. She goes straight to him, and the guy doesn’t get a chance to go down on one knee before she’s nodding and kissing him (2:15).

This is just so sweet because she clearly wasn’t expecting it at all. Those are the best kinds of proposals.

Mountaintop Proposal

Harrison and Hayley met for the first time at a training program for Fuge camps. He was the video producer, she was the director. “And the rest was history…” as the video says.

So when it came time for Harrison to propose, he knew he had to put his skills and their history to the test. He convinced her work to send her to a Director’s visit to Ridgecrest Conference Center, where he and she worked together the summer before. She had her actual meetings, and then when she was done friends were there to hand her a laptop with a video to watch.

Once the video was over (5:15) she was instructed to walk the path and read the notes along the way. At the very end, there were notes in a car from her parents she was instructed to read before driving the car to the top of the mountain. When she got to the top (6:03), there was Harrison with a path, sunflowers, and a proposal waiting for her.

So much went into this proposal, it’s hard not to shed a tear. And, um, did you see that ring??

A Central Park Proposal

This simplistic flashmob proposal is too cute. Ashley (the girl in the teal dress) was not expecting to run into her friend or fiance the day she wandered into central park with others. However, as she’s watching the flashmob she gets really excited when she recognizes one of the dancers (2:40) and then gets an even bigger surprise.

When her boyfriend, Nisael, emerges from the crowd across the way (around 4:01), it takes Ashley a minute to see him and then realize that this moment is all for her. As he does his little dance in her direction, we get to see her starting to freak out. It gets even better when onlookers shout as he drops to one knee (4:25).

I love that this flashmob wasn’t huge and didn’t use one of the marriage songs that we’ve heard over and over and over within the past year.

Disney World Proposal with a Twist

Patrick and Gavin have been together for three years. They met at Disney’s Boardwalk Resort and it was fireworks ever since. One night, Gavin thought he was just going out to drinks with friends. What he wasn’t expecting, was an amazing proposal.

Gavin is met along the boardwalk by more friends and family. Each time, they hand him a note that Patrick wrote him. And boy are they all tear jerkers. When they reach a part of the boardwalk, there are dancers waiting to dance beautifully. Around 4:53, they finally part to show us all Gavin, ready with more of a speech as he drops to one knee.

What really got me is the last person holding a note, who I’m assuming is Gavin’s dad. It got him so emotional and it really made me get teary-eyed.

Proposing During a TV-Show Binge

Don’t deny it. We all do it. Whether it’s through Netflix, or just on cable, there has been at least one occasion where you have more-than-likely binged a whole season (or five) or a certain show. And, personally, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it. My husband and I love to find new shows (or old shows) and watch episode after episode when we have lazy days.

So how do you take this mindset and use it for a proposal? Here are three ideas!

1. Watch her favorite show. There are plenty of shows that I have begged my husband to watch. Be romantic and think about her by giving in to watch Dawson’s Creek, or whatever show it is that she swears you’ll like and you’ve been against watching. Buy some of her favorite snacks, perhaps a bottle of wine, and when you’re at a break in the show (or a romantic point), seize the moment and tell her you love her in all of her glory and pop the question!

2. Host a party. Waiting for the next season of your favorite show to come on to Netflix? Once it does, invite your friends who love to watch it for a themed party of the show. Rewatch the latest season, followed by as much of the new season as you can. When the time is right, get everyone’s attention, and take advantage of your repertoire by proposing!

3. Pajamas and no makeup. Girls love to know that they are loved regardless of how they look. Whether they’re dressed in their finest or relaxing at home in their yoga pants, they want to know that their significant other is going to love them through it all (and notice the little things, of course). Show up with a season or two of a show and some new pjs for her, letting her know just how much it means to you that she’s that comfortable around you. When the time is right, let her know that you’re going to love her in sickness and in health, in heels and slippers, and pull out that ring for the clincher.
