Lucky Couple Wins 22 Carat Engagement Ring

worlds-best-coupleA New Zealand couple were selected for the World’s Best Couple contest. We wrote about the event earlier when the contest was first announced. Kim Kardashian and jewelry designer Michael Hill have been promoting the event, most particularly the 22 carat princess cut engagement ring. The lucky couple, Cameron and Shariyah Morris, had to complete a series of 16 challenges to gain the most public votes.

According to their submission, the couple met when Shariyah relocated for a babysitting job. When Cameron, her travel agent, contacted her about travel arrangements, the two immediately hit it off. But the couple’s “meeting story” was just one of their challenges. The couple also had to upload their favorite photo, talk about their secret pet names for each other and pen a commitment contact. Check out their submission here.

Two Princesses, Two Engagement Rings

Here’s some more info about soon-to-be princesses Kate Middleton and Charlène Wittstock and their engagement rings:

Charlène Wittstock

The Olympic swimmer announced her engagement to Prince Albert II of Monaco this past summer. Her gorgeous pear-shaped engagement ring was made by designer Alberto Repossi. According to Alberto, the white gold engagement ring had a 4 carat pear-shaped center stone and two 2 carat round side stones. The designer named the ring “Téthys,” which is the name of the Greek sea goddess.

Kate Middleton

The 28-year-old fashion icon announced her engagement to Prince William this past month. She inherited Princess Diana’s coveted blue sapphire ring. The engagement ring, which has an 18 carat center stone and 14 round diamonds, is in white gold and cost $44,500 in 1981, but is now worth approximately $396,150. Interesting fact: Although everyone loves Princess Diana’s iconic ring, apparently it wasn’t loved by Princess Diana herself. After her divorce, Princess Diana later said in an interview that if it was up to her she would have picked a different ring.

Fortune Cookie Engagement Ring Box

Placing an engagement ring inside a fortune cookie has been a popular proposal idea for years. We, however, have always advised against it. We just don’t see how placing thousand dollar jewelry into food is a good idea (it might get eaten). But, if you still have your heart set on a fortune cookie proposal, check out this fortune cookie ring box. The box, which is gold and covered in swarovski crystals, is shaped to look like a fortune cookie. Now you no longer have to worry about it accidentally being consumed. [Amazon]

Viral Central Park Proposal a Hoax

central-park-proposal-capAbout a month ago, a video of an adorable marriage proposal recorded at Central Park hit the web. In the video, a group of friends used iPhones to secretly record “Frank” proposing to his girlfriend “Kasey.” Once the video went viral, many people immediately began to doubt the video’s authenticity, with many believing it was a marketing ploy to promote Apple products. We also had a theory of our own. But, according to Mashable, the video wasn’t an Apple commercial in disguise; the video was made for a new marketing company called Thinkmodo, which will launch January of next year.

“Since viral videos are both art and science, we wanted to merge both elements to introduce predictability to the videos’ success,” Michael Krivicka, founder of Thinkmodo, told Mashable. “As part of our ’study’ we staged an elaborate marriage proposal in Central Park and fused tech and romance to see how well each would be received if merged.”

A tad anticlamatic if you ask us. Let’s hope this doesn’t start a plethora of fake viral videos, especially proposal videos.
