RedCarpetJewels.com: Rent Jewelry Online

red-carpet-homepage
When celebs walk the red carpet, it’s rare for them to actually own anything they wear. Everything from their Valentino gown to their Damiani necklace is simply on loan. Once the award show is over, they hand everything back. If only us real folks could be as lucky.

Fortunately a new site, RedCarpetJewels.com, lets us average folks have the same opportunity. The site offers a wide range of fine jewelry that’s available for rental. Women can now feel like a celebrity (well, at least for one night) as they get to pick and choose from the hottest designer jewelry.

Recognizing the increasing demand for high-end jewelry at red carpet events and special occasions, RedCarpetJewels.com co-founders, Stuart Skolnik and Laurent Landau, saw a chance to create a very unique type of rental business.

“We wanted to give every woman the opportunity to dress herself up with something glamorous, something special, something indulgent,” says Landau. “What could be more fitting than real diamonds, rubies and precious stones? With RedCarpetJewels.com, now they can have access to a variety of fine jewelry without the huge cost or any buyer’s remorse.”

Just like shopping online, women can pick from an extensive selection of statement pieces. Opulent bracelets, earrings and necklaces are available to borrow or buy through the website.

4 Marriage Proposal “Don’ts”

This latest viral video of a proposal gone wrong shows four distinct “don’ts” you should never do during a proposal. In the cringeworthy video, a guy proposes to his surprised girlfriend at a mall. He then serenades her to  “Sweet Caroline” (perhaps her name is Caroline?) and then asks for her hand in marriage. Overwhelmed and embarrassed, the girlfriend runs away, leaving her poor boyfriend looking sad and rejected in front of a crowd of people.

So here’s what went wrong:

Proposal Don’t #1: Proposing some place loud, noisy and unromantic

Public proposals are fine, but try to pick a place that’s a little more personal and romantic, like a theater or a park. You definitely wouldn’t want to propose some where that’s loud and tacky, like a mall, for instance.

Proposal Don’t #2: Not talking about the proposal beforehand

Most couples talk about getting married before the actual proposal, so even though the proposal itself is a surprise, the idea of getting married isn’t. Usually the girlfriend is expecting a proposal. This girl obviously wasn’t. Perhaps the guy figured he would surprise her 100%? Bad call.

Proposal Don’t #3: Don’t embarrass her

Public proposals only work for people who don’t mind being the sudden center of attention. If your girlfriend is shy or gets embarrassed easily, she probably doesn’t want to stand in the middle of the food court while being serenaded to “Sweet Caroline.”

Proposal Don’t #4:  Don’t embarrass him

Sure there’s nothing more embarrassing than an unwanted proposal, especially a public one, but leaving your boyfriend high and dry isn’t cool either. If you’re turning down his proposal, simply whisper in his ear, “We’ll talk about this later,” give him a hug and play nice in front of the crowd. You can let him have it later.

Do You Have an Ugly Engagement Ring?

ugly-engagement-ringMost women love their engagement rings and wouldn’t exchange them for the world, but others are not so lucky. For every Tacori stunner there’s a pawn store cubic zirconium with a hint of a yellowish gleam. Since 1910’s Ugliest Engagement Ring Contest is for those unlucky individuals who wish to replace their engagement ring with one they won’t be too embarrassed to show their friends.

To enter the contest, all you have to do is upload a picture of your ugly engagement ring. Visitors then vote on which ring they think is the ugliest. The lucky winner gets a new Tacori engagement ring that’s valued at $15,000! Not bad.

So far, there are 14 entries. The rings aren’t really that ugly, but there are a lot of out-of-date styles and rings that look worn out and could use an upgrade. Got an ugly engagement ring? Enter the contest now.

Couple wins $15,000 ArtCarved Engagement Ring at Amazing Ring Race

DOP_6691
More than 1,000 couples took part in the annual Amazing Ring Race, an event sponsored by Thomas Markle Jewelers earlier this week, but only one lucky couple got to win the coveted prize, a $15,000 ArtCarved engagement ring.

Couple Kerry and Daniel were “in complete shock” when they discovered they won the event. The event, which had couples compete in a scavenger hunt where they had to answer various clues via mobile technology, had a huge turnout despite the rain, wind and cold temperatures.

After couple Kerry and Daniel made their way to the stage to pick up their prize, Daniel immediately got on one knee and proposed. Lucky couple!

Should You Give Gifts at an Engagement Party?

engagement-party-champagneOne of the biggest misconceptions about engagement parties is that they’re little mini wedding receptions. An engagement party is just a little get together to celebrate the engagement. Stuff like gifts and fancy dinners should be left for the wedding, as one Miss Manners reader learned.

The reader asked Miss Manners:

I received an invitation to an engagement party/dinner. In the envelope, a small card was inserted reading, “We kindly request that you leave the choice of the gift to the engaged couple.”

How exactly should I take this? I always thought that when you get engaged you do not get a gift. When you get married you get a gift, and what happens if the wedding is called off?

I was thrown off by what feels like a rude way of asking for money! Please help me in my understanding of this.

Miss Manners advised the reader that her friends were rude and deserved no money at all. But if you ever find yourself in a similar conundrum, buying the couple a nice bottle of wine or a tray of hor’dourves will please them without you having to dig deep into your wallet. Leave wedding-related gifts for the wedding.

Do you think it’s rude to ask for gifts at an engagement party?

A Proposal at Splash Mountain

disney-proposal

Check out this adorable proposal that took place at Splash Mountain at Disneyland. “Lindsay” is the scared girl in the front. After the photo went viral, a guy named “joefamous” who said he was one of the guys holding a sign described the proposal in more detail via Reddit:

lindsay is in fact the girl in the front and she did say yes, i would know because i was holding up one of the signs! the guy right behind her is her fiance, chris. i carried a backpack around all day with the signs folded up in the laptop sleeve along with snacks and jackets so she wouldnt suspect anything. the 5 of us behind her practiced holding the signs the day before so they wouldnt block each other from view. as soon as we were far enough on the ride, i passed out the signs(which were numbered so we had them in the right order) one by one and we hid them until we started going up the hill to the drop. as soon as we hit the peak, we all pulled out the signs and held them up until the pic was taken, then immediately passed them to the back of the log where i re-hid them in my backpack. she didnt see what happened until they posted the pic on the screen at the end of the ride! the actual ring was hidden in the backpack as well to keep it safe. as soon as we got off the ride he gave her the ring and we purchased the pics! we actually planned the whole thing and practiced so that it would be a complete surprise to her and pulled it off with a great picture to remember it by and a funny story to tell!

Celebrities Who Waited Years Before Getting Engaged

According to More magazine, Johnny Depp and long-time girlfriend Vanessa Paradis are finally getting married. The couple, who have been together since 1998 and have two children together, have both publicly shunned the idea of marriage in the past. “I never found myself needing that piece of paper,” Johnny told Extra in 2010. But it looks like things have changed for the private couple. The two are planning to tie the knot at a small ceremony this summer in the south of France.

This news makes us wonder: what other celebrity couples waited years before getting engaged?

The first couple we can think of at the top of our heads is Calista Flockhart & Harrison Ford. This couple, despite their 22 year age gap, happily dated for seven years before they decided to tie the knot in a private ceremony in 2009.

Megan Fox & Brian Austin Green waited about six years before getting married in 2010. The on-again/off-again couple originally were engaged in 2006, but the couple mutually called it off. When the couple finally got hitched in Hawaii last year, Brian said a huge factor that helped their relationship was Megan’s involvement in raising his son. “Megan has been just so helpful and instrumental in raising him,” he told Parade in 2010.

And lastly, the couple who waited the longest to get engaged (that we can think of) is everyone’s favorite royal couple, Prince William and Kate Middleton. The couple dated off and on for eight years before the prince finally popped the question in 2010.

Can you think of any other celebs who waited 5+ years to get married?
