Amy Smart’s Engagement Ring
The Just Friends actress, who got engaged to home improvement guru Carter Oosterhouse last week, happily flashed her engagement ring at an Earth Day event on April 21. There’s not much we can say about the engagement ring now, but it appears to be a dainty ring with a pave band and a fancy cut center stone. The ring reminds us of this cute but slightly less blingy ring from The Sylvie Collection. Both rings are perfect for those who want a modest ring with a lot shimmer.

Same Sex Wedding Rings, Engagement Rings
Those who are in a same-sex relationship might be wondering what type of options are available for them for wedding rings and engagement rings. Most matching sets have a “feminine” ring and a “masculine” ring, which can be a problem. Plus, some gay and lesbian couples would rather have rings that look similar but are not exactly the same.
Fortunately there are several designers who create matching wedding rings that are perfect for same-sex couples. Below are a few of our favorites:
Rony Tennenbaum offers several matching engagement and wedding rings that are especially made for same-sex couples. Their newest LVOE collection consists of gorgeous bands in yellow and white gold with the word “LVOE” on them. (The misspelling is deliberate, the reasoning being that “love is love no matter how you spell it.”)
Christian Bauer also makes beautiful wedding ring sets that are perfect for same-sex couples. The rings are similar but different, and we particularly like this yellow gold and platinum set with a peekaboo diamond.
And since we posted so many yellow/white rings, here’s something a little different. These black ceramic and diamond rings from Etienne Perret are perfect for those who want something a little unique. The rings might look the same, but the band on the right has a slightly smaller diamonds.
Crossword Marriage Proposal
Corey Newman had the perfect proposal idea. He got in touch with someone at The Washington Post to help him create a hidden marriage proposal message in that Sunday’s crossword puzzle. But the process wasn’t easy. It took him several months to get things planned with the crossword puzzle writer, and, on the day of the proposal, it took him all morning to find a copy of that Sunday’s paper (he eventually swiped it from another business but promised to pay it back). He then set up a hidden camera to record his girlfriend’s reaction. Needless to say, she was ecstatic. “How did you do that?” she exclaimed after the proposal. [Watch the video]
Bonnie Wright’s Engagement Ring
It’s official! Harry Potter‘s Bonnie Wright and Twilight‘s Jamie Campbell Bower are engaged. Although rumors about the couple’s engagement started spreading last year, the couple officially confirmed it yesterday.
“I’m engaged. I’m very happy,” Bower told the iPad-only publication The Daily. “It’s a wonderful, wonderful time.”
Check out Bonnie’s engagement ring! The ring appears to be a simple solitaire with a yellow gold band.

Pokemon Wedding Ring Box
Pokemon, the popular animated show from the early ’00s, might not seem like a likely piece in a proposal, but one romantic geek decided he wanted to think outside the box. He used a plastic Pokemon ball as a wedding ring box. Inside was the note, “I choose you!” It’s dorky but strangely cute. [Livejournal via Geekologie]
Attend Prince William and Kate Middleton’s Royal Wedding Reception
In celebration of Prince William and Kate Middleton‘s wedding, Long Jewelers is throwing a royal wedding reception on April 30 at 2 p.m. Held at the Military Aviation Museum in Virginia Beach, Va., couples can watch flights of vintage British airplanes and compete to win a $1,000 gift card and a blue sapphire engagement ring, just like Kate’s.
In addition to the giveaway and air show, couples can get a glimpse at “The Ring,” a stunning blue sapphire ring that’s even larger than Kate’s! Unfortunately, that ring won’t be given away, but there’s nothing wrong with stopping by and admiring it.

“Engagement” Chicken: Is a Tasty Chicken Dinner Really All It Takes to Get Married?
Perhaps there’s some truth to the outdated saying, “The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach.” In 2004, Glamour published a recipe for “engagement chicken.” According to the article, if one was to cook the chicken for their boyfriend, their boyfriend was guaranteed to propose within a couple of days. Sound ridiculous? According to MSNBC, since the original publication of the recipe, dozens of women have come forward to say that not only is the engagement chicken delicious, it has also snagged them a ring.
The recipe is included in a new cookbook called 100 Recipes Every Woman Should Know. The author appeared on the TODAY show to show host Meredith Vieira how to cook the chicken. Apparently it involves stuffing the chicken with whole lemons…? Watch the video below. What do you think of engagement chicken? Any success stories?

Guy Engraves Proposal into iPad 2
Check out this adorable “geeky” proposal. Jordan C. wanted to surprise his girlfriend, a fellow Mac-head, with the perfect proposal. So he engraved the words “Will you marry me?” into a new iPad 2 and then gave it to his then-girlfriend, Jessica. Jessica’s response to the proposal? “Yes, now give me my iPad!” It kind of reminds of another iPad marriage proposal. I guess you can’t beat an engagement ring and an iPad. [9to5Mac via Mashable]
