This guy faked his death to propose

Man faked his death to propose. Photo Courtesy of Quirky News.

Sure, we understand the pressure out there on guys to have a unique and memorable proposal, but this one just blows them all out of the water— in the worst possible way.

This guy FAKED HIS DEATH to propose by shelling out a ton of cash, working with a stuntman, make-up artist, screen writer and director. When his girlfriend showed up to meet him, all she saw was a horrific car crash scene with her boyfriend’s bloody body lying on the road. A paramedic told her that he was dead.

Of course she was hysterical. Wouldn’t you?

But wait. Mr. Casanova (NOT!) “rose from the dead” and then proposed to her. Apparently he just wanted to show her that she couldn’t possibly live life without him.

Um…excuse me? Isn’t it the other way around? Aren’t proposals supposed to be men humbling themselves to ask a woman for her hand, proclaiming their love and their inability to live without her?

This proposal was selfish, insensitive and downright cruel. I wish I could tell you that this lady, after realizing her boyfriend was a downright selfish psychopath, said “NO” and walked away. But I can’t. They in fact already got married last week.

Apparently she was mad at first (rightfully so), but then “saw the joke in it.” REALLY?

If any guy did that to me, my first response would be, “You don’t think I could live life without you? Watch me.”

What do you think of this crazy proposal? Romantic or just plain awful?

Matching a Wedding Band to your E-Ring

My engagement ring was by Simon G. Jewelry and my wedding band was by Kays. Photo by Christi Falls Photography

Receiving your engagement ring is a big deal– but know what’s an even bigger deal? Picking out your wedding band! For some ladies, this is easier than others. If you helped your fiance pick out the ring, then you may already  have an idea in mind for your wedding band too. My mother picked out her engagement ring and picked a set that came with the wedding band. Talk about easy!

Others, however, have a more difficult road to travel.

For me, it was quite the hit and miss process to find my perfect wedding band. After winning our engagement ring from Simon G. Jewelry, we were so blown away by how big it was– my fiance almost refused to buy a wedding band. He said my engagement ring could serve the purpose as both.

I know some ladies who have done that and it works out great for them, but for me, I wanted a band to go with my ring. However, size was an issue. It seemed like every wedding band out there was just way too huge to go with my ring. Then I had other jewelers try to sell me on black diamond eternity bands or sapphire accent rings on both side.  It would too bulky or look too thick laying next to my engagement ring. I felt like a hopeless case.

Until one day, when I was having kind of a bum day, I decided to take a chance. I marched into Kays jewelry and said, “My fiance says there’s no wedding band that could possibly look good with my ring. Can you find something?”

The woman behind the counter barely hesitated or blinked when she said, “I know just the thing.” And poof! Out came the tiniest, daintiest, braided diamond wedding band. And because it was much smaller than most wedding bands, the price was definitely right for my fiance.

Matching your ring can be difficult. But there are some things you can keep in mind:

1) Keep size in perspective. If you have a big ring, look toward smaller bands. If you have a smaller ring, look for something of equal or greater size to balance it out. Not all wedding bands are one-size looks great.

2) Keep texture in mind. Everyone kept trying to sell me on eternity bands because my ring already had so many diamonds on it. However, it never seemed to look right. It wasn’t until I tried a smaller braided ring that the texture matched the side of my ring and looked like it belonged all along.

3) Don’t worry about going traditional. Sometimes not having a wedding band or choosing a band with colored stones is right for you. You never know until you try!

4) If all else fails, ask a jeweler. These people know what they’re doing. It took two seconds out of months of searching on my own for one lady to find the perfect band. It never hurts to ask a jeweler to play matchmaker for you.

You’ve been wearing your engagement ring WRONG!

Don’t worry. It’s not really that wrong. But did you know that engagement rings were traditionally worn on the middle finger?

Nope. I’m not kidding. There are  (or at least were way back when) some people who flip the bird with their sparkly engagement ring (that really shows them, eh?).

It actually used to have religious significance in the Medieval Period as the groom would slide the ring up and over each finger as he said, “In the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.” As he said each entity, he would move it on a different finger, leaving the ring on the middle finger at the end.

However, in North America and in the United Kingdom, the ring finger became customary for marriage and engagements because it was believed the vein in that particular finger led straight to the heart– therefore allowing the commitment band to be in direct contact with your ability to love.

Interest, eh? Of course, as the bride, you can wear your engagement ring anyway you like.

But would you wear it on your middle finger?

Coolest (and Unique) Disney Proposal

Proposing at Disney isn’t new. But you can’t blame anyone for wanting to propose there. It’s one of the most magical places on Earth– if your girl loves Disney, why wouldn’t you propose there?

Oh because it’s cliche? Well not all the time, my friends. There are still unique was to make a Disney proposal completely magical. Forget about proposing in front of Cinderella’s castle or doing some Disney princess bit. Check out this guy’s Finding Nemo themed Disney proposal.

I’ve never seen this before, but apparently there is a “Turtle Talk” attraction where guests can actually interact with the sea turtle from Finding Nemo. Maybe I’m a bit slow, but I cannot for the life of me figure out how the turtle is so involved in the proposal conversation or how the guy could have coordinated this.

But then again, the fact that I can’t figure out how this guy pulled off such a cool proposal makes it that much cooler. How can you say no to a proposal when a huge, computer animated turtle is talking to you in real time? I thought this was equal parts cute and creative. You have to give it to the guy for reinventing the Disney proposal.

3 practical facts about your diamond

Everyone is so excited to get their diamond ring when they get engaged, that sometimes, little else crosses your mind about it. I mean, who could blame you? You’re blissfully in love and it’s beautiful. What more could you want?

But wearing such an expensive symbol of your man’s love comes with some responsibility. Here are some things you NEED to be aware of when owning a diamond ring.

1) Jewelers could switch out your diamond while cleaning it
Sure, it’s a rare occurrence, but the truth is– it can and does happen when unsuspecting customers leave their rings to be cleaned. How do you prevent it? By knowing your diamond. Study your diamond’s cut, color and quality. Also be aware of whether or not your diamond is laser inscribed. If it is, ask to look at it magnified before you drop it off and when you pick it up, just to make sure the numbers line up.

2) Diamonds can cut you (or someone else)
Your ring may be pretty, but it can also be a sparkly hazard. If you’re a hand talker or just plain accident prone, be more aware of your ring. It can easily scratch and even cut you, or worse– your fiance. I’m not going to lie, I have suffered some minor wounds from my own ring. My husband tries to stay clear of it when I start talking with my hands like the Italian that I am.

3) Rings should be insured
You insure your car, your house, your health and even your life– why not your engagement ring? The truth is, it probably took a lot for your honey to buy you that sparkly. If anything were to happen– loss, theft, etc– you’re going to want to be able to replace it. Nothing’s worse than losing your engagement ring and then not having anything to show on your hand other than a twist tie. Be prepared. Be smart.

A proposal straight from the movies

"The Wedding Singer" is a great movie-- and even inspired a proposal! (Image courtesy of Google Images)

There’s always that one movie that inspires you, captures your heart, and makes you think, “Wow. That’s real love.”

Or, you may just have a favorite movie because it’s awesome.

Regardless, basing your proposal on a favorite movie of your lady (or bonus if it’s a movie you both LOVE together), is a cute way to make her feel like a star and even someone special out of a famous love story.

Take this guy for instance, he decided to mirror the moment in “The Wedding Singer” where Adam Sandler comes out and starts singing on a plane to Drew Barrymore, completely surprising her. Well, his bride-to-be was just as surprised as he had hoped. What a cute proposal.

Meanest proposal ever

Ok. Hold up. I know not all moments are perfect, but this one’s a bit ridiculous. I cam across this proposal on Youtube and just stared for a while. WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND SAY YES TO THIS?

Well, apparently this chick did.

Meet Nikki and John. Apparently they have a whole website of Youtube videos of themselves pranking each other. Since pranking is their “thing,” John decides to prank his girlfriend and THEN propose to her. Yeah…doesn’t make much sense to me either.

Basically he was supposed to take her out on a nice anniversary date, but instead, drops green goop on her. Then proposes. She’s so pissed, she questions whether or not the ring is a real ring and if it was a real proposal.

I’m pretty sure that may be a bad sign. You know? Nothing says a great relationship and future like an immense feeling of suspicion and lack of trust.

But it worked for them. She said “Yes” and now they’re engaged. What I want to know is, does anyone else find this bonkers too?

Proposing to your girl’s child too

This proposal was not just to one person, but two. Would you propose to your partner's child too?

When you ask someone to marry you, you’re preparing to completely merge your two lives together as one family. Sometimes that includes children (either you and your partners’s already or maybe children from previous relationships). It’s a big deal for a child’s mother (or father) to get married to another person. So why not make that moment special for them too?

This guy did just that. Not only did he have a beautiful sandcastle built with a “Will You Marry Me?” proposal sculpted in the sand, but he also had written, “Eva (the toddler daughter) be my princess.”

Super cute, right? After he got down on one knee to propose to his bride-to-be, he got back on his knees and gave the daughter, Eva, a heart-shaped locket with a picture of her mother and him. What a sweet way to propose to his future step-daughter.

Check out the video. How would you propose to your partner’s child?
