Marine Makes Birthday Wish Come True

Boy meets girl. Boy joins marines. It’s one of those love stories that’s riddled with the hardship of long distance relationships. But this marine, who has been serving for four years so far and had just finished a 7 month tour in Afghanistan, knew his heart belonged to his girl.

Apparently, every birthday, his girlfriend’s wish is for him to come home safely. She thought he was away for training this time and wasn’t expecting him to be there in person at all. He planned an amazing birthday party for her without her suspecting a thing.

But the best part? He waited until she blew out her birthday candles to walk in. That way, he really did get to grant her wish this year. And after giving her the surprise of her life, he topped it with a beautiful ring and a promise for a very happy life together.

Does this not make your heart melt?

A Dangerous Seaside Proposal

The moment was perfect. Her dreamy prince charming was standing atop a rock in a handsome suit with the sea as his backdrop. To set the mood,  he even sang her an original song he wrote just for her and this very special occasion.  After his heartfelt performance, he invited his love onto the rock with him to ask her a very important question.

That’s when disaster struck.

A huge wave came and knocked them both  off their rock and back onto the beach. They were literally swept off their feet at the moment he asked her to marry him.

Fortunately, they both survived, laughed it off, and no one was injured. The biggest relief? The ring is still in tact and she got to say “Yes!” They have a heck of a proposal story and some great pictures, but that was definitely a close call.

Remember, safety first when it comes to proposals!

How to Have a “Leprechaun” Proposal

What an Irish month March is! With St. Patty’s Day around the corner, it’s a great time to start thinking about super fun proposals. If your girl has a fascination with leprechauns, or if you just want a playful way to propose, having a leprechaun proposal could do the trick to getting her the most memorable proposal of all.

1. The Trickster Leprechaun

It’s a trend now among parents to mess things up around the house and say a leprechaun did it. Some toss papers everywhere and even leave a trail of little green foot prints and gold chocolate coins. Turn this idea into a playful proposal by making it look like a leprechaun rummaged through your house. During the raid, he must have “accidentally” found the ring and threw it to the side. She’ll be shocked, confused and it takes some pressure off of you because the “leprechaun made you propose now.”

2. The End of the Rainbow

It’s hard to plan a rainbow on command, so why not make your own? Make a rainbow trail for your lady to follow– it could be a literal rainbow painted or drawn with chalk on the sidewalk or it could be a scavenger hunt with clues of different colors leading her down the path. At the end, she’ll find a pot of gold— nah. Who wants that when they could have the man of their dreams down on one knee?

3. Dress Up Like a Leprechaun Yourself

Why make the leprechaun a third party when you can be the leprechaun yourself? Check out this video where a guy dresses up in a leprechaun costume and surprises his bride-to-be as she performs Irish step dancing in a parade.

“Beware the Ides of March” Proposal

Anyone who has survived high school English class is familiar with Shakespeare’s piece “Julius Cesar.” Who would have thought that such a tragedy would be the inspiration for a proposal?

The famous quote of the play, “Beware the Ides of March,” foreshadows Cesar’s death where he is stabbed by trusted friends, including his best friend who puts his dagger straight into Cesar’s back. It happened on March 15th, the Ides of March.

Well this groom decided to it would be a good idea to mesh this literary masterpiece with his future wife’s birthday and proposal. Since the fashion of choice back then was togas, everyone at the party is wearing one and they all rush the door when she comes in. Look closely…some even  have knives.

Yup, it’s a bit peculiar, but she says “Yes!” and there’s no doubt she was surprised. We’re just glad no one got stabbed, but kudos on the creative March proposal!

Watch it below!

Six March Events to Base Your Proposals On

March is a great time of year for proposals. It’s not too late for you to have a wintery proposal and yet, if you’re strategic with your planning, you can have one of the first Spring proposals of the year. Here are some great March themed-events that you can base your proposals on
1) March Madness

It’s basketball season! Does your lady have a sporty side you both enjoy? A basketball themed proposal could be just your thing! Or you can get creative using brackets. Start brainstorming now. The games start mid-March.

2) St. Patrick’s Day
Whether or not you’re Irish, this time of year is always a fun little holiday. Plan a fun scavenger hunt searching for  a “pot of gold” or have a rainbow-themed proposal with the ring on the other end.

3) First Day of Spring
Do you smell that? It’s the scent of fresh flowers and new growth! The first day of Spring is March 20th.  Don’t waste it! Plan the craziest Spring-themed proposal she’ll ever see. It’s the perfect time to start new together!

4) Pi Day
Okay math nerds, this one’s for you! March 14th is none other than Pi day! Plan a math-themed proposal accompanied by her favorite pies. It’ll be proposal she’ll never see coming from a mile away.

5)  Barbie’s Birthday
March 9th is Barbie’s birthday! If your girl’s childhood was filled with Barbie play time, why not take a walk down memory lane? Forget prince charming, you can be her Ken!

6) Easter
Easter’s at the end of March this year. This could be a great time for your proposal with family all around, chocolate bunnies, surprise eggs, and more. Hiding plastic eggs with the diamond ring inside one? Fun and adorable.

An Artistic Proposal

This artist decided to propose to his muse by painting her a picture that would convey his message. After all, why write it in the sky when you can paint her one? What’s even better is that he filmed the whole process so she could watch a time lapse of his handiwork. He presented the entire masterpiece by surprising her when she walked in the door. She was greeted by the painting, candles that spell out LOVE and of course him down on one knee.

The look on her face was priceless.

But what piques our interest even more is the beautiful display of the ring he does at the very end. I’m pretty sure that beauty of a diamond was a work of art itself. Check it out below!

Gay Engagements 101

With more states passing laws to support gay weddings, we are hoping to see more and more romantic same sex proposals in 2013. We sat down last week  with designer Rony Tennenbaum to ask him a few questions.

Are gay couples getting engaged as often as straight couples, is it a common step towards a wedding?

I strongly believe that the engagement process has been a missing link in LGBT relationships.  Keeping in mind it has only been 10 years since the right to marry was first extended to same-sex couples in 2003. To date, only eight states have legalized that right. With so much focus on marriage, little attention has been paid in the community to the engagement process. However, I believe that is changing as the number of states legalizing gay marriages increases. Personally, I promote and encourage engagement!

Why do you think the engagement period is such an important step in this day and age in any committed couple’s life?

Commitment is a journey with defined milestones that keep the momentum and helps solidify a relationship.  The engagement helps define the beginning of the formal commitment period and the marriage ceremony is both the culmination of that period and the beginning of formal life together as a wedded couple. While the laws legalizing gay marriage have promoted the wedding milestone, I believe the significance of an engagement is essential to the intimate journey a couple goes through together.

What are your favorite trends and pieces for man-engagement rings?

Solitaires are one of my favorite trends in mens’ engagement rings. It is a positive reflection of what is purchased most often in the general population. At the same time, since an engagement ring is a symbol of love between two people and an exchange of a promise, I do believe it should have more significance than any other ring.  I believe there needs to be either some kind of symbolism in the design without being stereotypical, or it should stand out as a unique and fresh design. My WED COLLECTION is a good example. These unique pieces exude masculinity yet are a modern take on solitaire rings.

What is the most romantic proposal story you have recently witnessed or heard of?

My favorite experience took place about a year ago, when a male couple came into my store to select engagement rings. They chose complimentary rings, unique to each of their tastes, but did not make the purchase on the spot. A week later, the first partner called and told me he was going out of town for three months, but wanted to place an order for the ring his partner had lovingly chosen. While he was away, his partner called separately to put his order in for the other ring. Neither knew the other had ordered their ring. The second partner confided his plan to fly up for a surprise proposal. He flew halfway across the country and waited outside his partner’s office on a park bench. When lunchtime came, his partner exited the building and there was the love of his life waiting for him, box in hand, down on one knee. Through an emotional proposal, with tears in their eyes, the first partner accepted. The second half of the story took place three months later with the other proposal, which was equally romantic.  The couple was happily married this past October.

Nick Carter is Engaged!

All the 90s girls in the world are tearing up right now. One of the most  desirable men of boy band past is engaged! Nick Carter proposed to Lauren Kitt on February 22nd and announced the engagement on Instagram and Twitter. The caption? “Big question… Great answer.”

The 33-year-old singer proposed to the 29-year-old fitness expert and actress on an island in the Florida Keys. Talk about a great setting for a perfect proposal. Hopefully the rest of their relationship is just as sunny as their time proposal was.

For all those who used to swoon over Nick Carter in the past, don’t worry. While he may be unavailable now, rumor has it that the Backstreet Boys will be coming out with a new album eventually.
