The $38 Million Pink Diamond

One of the world’s rarest diamonds is being auctioned off at a price that will set a new record. The 25 carat pink diamond, which used to be owned by late jeweler Harry Winston, is now up for grabs for the highest bidder, according to The Daily Mail.

“I cannot exaggerate just how rare this stone is,” David Bennett, chairman of the international jewelery department at Sotheby’s, told the British paper. “It is one of the most desirable diamonds ever to come to auction and its beauty has haunted me since the very first time I set eyes on it some years ago.”

The diamond, which is classified as ‘fancy intense pink,’ got its unique color after millions of years being formed inside the Earth which now allows the diamond to absorb light in a unique way. The pink diamond is a part of a classification of diamonds that make up less than 2 percent of the world’s diamonds.

Maria Sharapova’s Engagement Ring

The tennis star was recently spotted strolling through Venice Beach this past weekend with a giant rock on her finger. The engagement ring was given to her by her fiance, LA Laker Sasha Vujacic . Although the picture of her ring is a little blurry, the ring appears to be a cushion or emerald cut ring sat in an elaborate setting. It’s very dramatic and,  most likely, very expensive!

Hilary Duff Helps Soon-to-Be Brother-in-Law Find Engagement Ring

Hilary-DuffSinger and now author Hilary Duff was spotted out with her sister’s boyfriend this past Saturday shopping for engagement rings at a local Beverly Hills jewelry store. According to Just Jared, the pop star was helping her soon-to-be brother-in-law pick out an engagement ring for Hilary’s sister, Haylie.

Hilary, who went through the whole engagement process herself not too long ago, could probably offer some helpful pointers, but hopefully the media coverage doesn’t spoil the surprise proposal.

Going Halves on the Engagement Ring?

ugly-engagement-ringA  poster over at Fmylife.com, a site for cynics to share their frustrations with the world, posted an interesting dilemma:

“Today, my fiancé proposed to me. I was really excited until he asked, “Can we go halfsies on the ring?” FML

Ouch. What could be less romantic than that? But is asking to go half on the engagement ring really that bad, especially when so many young couples today no longer follow traditions?

Well, it depends.

The engagement ring is an important and costly investment, and for modern couples who favor splitting everything down the middle, splitting the cost of the engagement ring might seem like a fair solution. But here’s the catch: you both must be on the same page on this one.

You can’t ask your soon-to-be fiancee to pay for half of her engagement ring when she’s not the type to willingly pay for half of everything. If you want to know for sure, discuss this issue before the proposal. Make sure you both want the same things. If she says she’s willing to split the cost of all the rings (the engagement ring and both wedding bands), then going halves on the ring won’t seem like an epic failure on your part but more like a workable solution for the both of you.

But overall, the usual rule of thumb is to pay for the engagement ring yourself, cheapskate.

So, what do you think? Would you ever go halves on the engagement ring?

Reese Witherspoon’s Engagement Ring

Actress Reese Witherspoon is rumored to be getting engaged to longtime boyfriend Jim Toth, according to the newest issue of Us Weekly. The actress, who’s known for her conservative style, will most likely want an engagement ring with that same timeless, classic design. Her past engagement ring with former husband Ryan Phillippe was a gorgeous 10 carat princess cut ring. So what will her next engagement ring look like? Below are some rings we think suits Reese’s style:

Although we can’t guarantee this will get you married, the new “Marry Me!” fragrance by Lanvin is definitely for you romantics out there. Although the floral fragrance echoes that of many fragrances, what caught our eye is the ad campaign of two young couples in love. The perfume is on sale now, and it might make a good engagement gift.

iPhone Marriage Proposal

Movie theater proposals seem to be growing in popularity this year. Here’s another one from a clever guy who disguised his proposal as an iPhone commercial to play during the trailers. In the fake commercial, various apps are used to describe how much Chad loves his girlfriend Vy. He even describes their first date and various other “firsts” the two have had together. It’s pretty cute, although a tad long.

Throw Your Engagement Party at…McDonalds?

Greasy fast food, clowns and mcnuggets are not usually things you think about when imagining a wedding. But starting next year, McDonalds in Hong Kong will start offering wedding packages for couples who want to get hitched and eat french fries at the same time. The package comes with a baked apple pie wedding cake, a wedding dress made out of party balloons and, of course, top-notch catering provided by McDonalds.

"And by 'apple pie wedding cake' we meant a mountain of apple pies stacked into the shape of a wedding cake."

“Over the past two years, we’ve started receiving calls from people who want to have a wedding party in our restaurants,”  director of corporate communications and relations Helen Cheung Yuen-ling told the South China Morning Post. “There are about 10 calls a month. People said they’d dated here, or met here, and wanted to get married here … We see this as a business chance.”

Will totally not make you look fat or anything.
