Five reasons it’s great to be engaged in the Winter

1) You get to celebrate the holidays with each other’s families. With a ring on your finger, you’re definitely either already part of the family or well on your way. This is a great time to really mesh with the future in-laws, see how your future hubby plays with cute kids, and see how you both can deal with family drama and stress.

2) You can take really cute pictures in the snow. Sure, sundresses are cute, but the right sweater or coat can be just as cute and classy, making for very elegant engagement pictures. Or of course you could have a friend take candid pictures of the two of you simply playing in the snow. Either way, tons of photo ops in the winter!

3) There are tons of holiday activities and traditions to share in. Baking cookies together? How cute. Standing under the mistletoe? Yes please! No matter what you’re doing this holiday season, there’s always something fun and magical to do. Maybe its walking hand-in hand down a lighted neighborhood or snuggling up in a horse drawn carriage being pulled downtown. Ice skating even has potential for romantic memory making. There’s never a shortage of fun, winter-themed activities for you and your sweetheart to do.

4) You know you have the real thing. Break-ups tend to happen more in the winter than in the warmer months. Many people blame it on seasonal depression. If you and your honey can love each other through thick and thing, through warm seasons and cold– then you know your relationship is ready to stand the test of time.

5) Let’s be honest– it’s awesome to be engaged ANY TIME. Being engaged is just awesome. Whether it’s spring, summer, fall or winter, whether he proposed yesterday or a year ago, or whether or not he went all out for the proposal or sheepishly stumbled over his words– you’re engaged to the love of your life. It feels pretty awesome regardless.

What do you think: When’s the best time to be engaged?

Dave Haywood, band member of Lady Antebellum, popped the question to his girlfriend Kelli Cashiola right before Christmas in a completely magical way.

He arrived to Cashiola’s workplace, blind folded her, and “kidnapped” her to her home. Outside were twinkling Christmas lights that spelled out, “Will you marry me?”

And of course she said “YES!” (Who wouldn’t?) What a great surprise to open the holiday festivities with.

Now with Haywood engaged, the love circle is completed when it comes to the three-member band of Lady Antebellum. And by that, I mean all the members are officially off the market. According to NYDailyNews.com, Hillary Scott  is getting married this spring and Charles Kelly has been married since 2009.

Congrats to Haywood for taking this next step with Cashiola!

What do you think: Would you propose (or want to be proposed to) right before Christmas?

“Hit me baby one more time!” Looks like singer-superstar Britney Spears is getting another chance at love. This week her agent boyfriend, Jason Trawick, popped the question! Now the couple is spending the weekend in Las Vegas to celebrate their engagement and his 40th birthday, according to E Online.

In pictures, Spears couldn’t look happier. And she’s not the only one.

Even ex-husband Kevin Federline is happy for the couple.

“I’m really happy for her – I think he’s a great guy,” he said according to Mail Online.

Way to be mature, KFed. Looks like a happy engagement all the way around.

Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez engagement rumor continues

On December 7, Selena Gomez was spotted sporting a sparkly diamond ring on her left hand, according to Celebs.Gather.com. Of course that sent rumors FLYING– but the young couple denied being engaged.

Now a week later, rumors are still brewing about the couple’s potential knot tying. HollywoodLife.com even goes as far as to say that sources claim Selena will take the relationship reigns and pop the question herself to her famous beau in Canada over Christmas.

But the biggest part of the rumors isn’t that they ARE engaged or that they’re GOING to get engaged. Apparently the latest break in this famous love story is that Justin’s parents have “flipped out” regarding the news. His  family supposedly thinks the couple is moving too fast.

At ages 17 and 19, one could understand their concern– especially given the track record of most celebrity relationships in the limelight. But then there’s the romantic side that tugs on your heart strings saying, “there’s nothing quite like young love.”

Regardless of whether or not the engagement and parental disapproval rumors are true, I personally hope the rumors die down for the young couple. Being a teenager has enough pressure itself without throwing marriage into the mix.

What do you think: Should Justin Bieber’s parents have a say in the pace of his relationship with Selena?

If someone tried to talk you out of your engagement, would you listen?

Ellie Kemper is engaged to former writer for Late Night with Conan O’Brien! Michael Koman seems to be the perfect fit for the comedic actress who is best known for her role as Erin on The Office and her part in the movie Bridesmaids. I’m just assuming of course, but the fact that he appeared in a hot dog costume in the clip below seemed like a good indication that this is one funny couple.

Sounds like Kemper’s family has a good sense of humor too. Check out the clip below to hear about how her grandpa tried to tell her to “keep her options open” through some kind of pie metaphor.

Of course…Ellie is convinced he was actually talking about pie.

Click here to watch Ellie talk about her engagement and the awkward pie metaphor.

What do you think? If someone your respected in your family (like grandpa) tried to talk you out of your engagement, would you listen?

Rosie O’Donnell’s engagement ring

If Rosie O’Donnell wanted to make a statement about love or about same-sex marriages she definitely make them both with this gorgeous engagement ring given to fiance Michelle Rounds. The center diamond of approximately 4 carats appears cushion cut, a traditional antique cut that has been modernized over the years (like marriages). It’s a romantic cut that foregoes the fire and brilliance of modern cuts in favor of a more romantic feel. Therefore, it needs to be of the highest quality and color. It’s set into a pure, white platinum setting, symbolic of a love that is durable and will never fade or change over time. There may be additional significance to the fact that the center diamond is “surrounded by ’rounds’ set into a platinum collar. The estimated value is approximately $100,000. A ring that makes more than one romantic statement! Michael O’Connor

Rosie O’Donnell is engaged!

The 49-year-old comedian, Rosie O’Donnell, is engaged to her girlfriend, Michelle Rounds. Rounds is 40 and a New York City head hunter. No date is set yet, but rumor has it they will wed over the holiday break.

The news broke unintentionally. Word travels fast thanks to social media these days. After mentioning aside to a guest on her show that she was engaged, Rosie was in for a surprise. Audience members who were in ear shot immediately tweeted the news, and by the time the show was over, O’Donnell said it seemed like EVERYONE knew because they had read it off of AOL or some other news site.

That’s the Internet for you. Apparently, you can save a LOT of money on engagement announcements thanks to Twitter! Congrats to the happy couple!

What do you think: Is it ok for people to announce others’ engagements before they’re ready?
