3 Beach Proposal Ideas

It’s summer time! Well, technically we still have 12 days to go, but we’re close. Memorial Day Weekend has passed and vacations have started. You know what that means, don’t you? It’s time to hit up your nearest beach!

It’s clearly not uncommon to propose with the sand and the waves this time of year. People are out getting their tan on and enjoying all the sunshine has to offer. Why not make it even more special with a proposal? Here are some ideas for you!

1. Buried Treasure. Build a sand castle and when her head is turned, place the ring on top of it. Make sure she’s returning immediately to your project. You wouldn’t want someone else coming along and finding a diamond, that’s for sure! Still, make her “queen for the day” or “queen of your life”. Too cheesy? Maybe. But I bet her reaction will still be priceless! Not a sandcastle couple? Take up some space and write your message in the sand!

2. Picnic at Sunset/Sunrise. What girl hasn’t dreamt about “walks along the beach” at sunset or sunrise? Make it even more special and plan a picnic. Doing sunset? Pack her favorite desserts and some champagne or hot chocolate. Planning for sunrise? Pack some coffee to be followed by mimosas or another celebratory breakfast treat, with some fruit and something easy to pack (like bagels or homemade muffins).

3. In or On the Water. There are plenty of ways you could do this one. Take her out sailing and propose. Go snorkling and hold the ring (tightly) under the water for her to see before coming up to propose. If you surf, go out and propose while waiting for a wave. So many opportunities! Just make sure you have a good hold on your ring, or even save the ring for after your proposal.

As always, make this proposal about your relationship. If the beach has a special significance or is one of her favorite places, then where better to propose?

All You Need is Love

I’ve heard a lot about concert proposals lately. A friend of mine attended a Taylor Swift concert and apparently someone tried to propose during “Love Story”. However, he was proposal to Taylor… who I imagine was probably a bit out of his league.

But this video is pretty awesome. At a concert in Brazil, Sir Paul McCartney calls up two members of the audience due to the sign the guy was holding up. Apparently it really grabbed McCartney’s attention. This guy and his girl, Caroline, get to have the moment of a lifetime on stage during this event. The proposer announces that they met at a Beatles cover concert, and this is their fourth Beatles-esque concert together since then. Talk about a night to remember!

My favorite part? McCartney seems to be directing the guy through the entire thing (pictures he’s telling the proposer to get down on one knee), and in the end shares in the couples’ happiness by hugging them both and offering them hugs and kisses to boot. You have to respect the man for living by one of his mantras, “All You Need is Love”.

An Artistic Proposal

I love sharing people’s love stories. Ah, the wonders of YouTube.

This is positively adorable. The boyfriend put together an animated video to show his relationship with his girlfriend, Carine.

While the video doesn’t offer an actual proposal, the description shows that’s what it was for (and that she said yes)! He prides himself in the surprise, since Carine called him out and said he’d never be able to surprise her with a proposal. It took him four months to prepare this. Keeping a secret that long had to be tough!

This only continues to prove how far proposals can go these days. Flash mobs, videos, extravaganzas galore– don’t hold back. Whatever your girl’s style is, go with it. This clearly reflects their relationship! If only I were artistic….

Simple, Meaningful Proposal

My husband, Clark, proposed to me in my dorm room within the first month of college. We were watching Aladdin. Not kidding. We were just hanging out, talking about things to come.

After this and that, Clark told me to close my eyes. He paused the movie right as Aladdin is asking Jasmine, “Do you trust me?” You know, the balcony scene?

Then I heard, “Come What May” from Moulin Rouge playing (our song), and he told me to open my eyes. There he was, kneeling in front of me, ring right there where I could see it.

I wasn’t exactly shocked. We had already been talking about getting engaged. However, our plan was to wait a year or so before doing it. After all, we were just into college, we were only eighteen, and we had only been together for five months.

It didn’t matter. Clark told me how he had this elaborate proposal planned. Going to New York City for our fall break, taking me to see Wicked, taking me out to dinner, a horse and carriage ride through Central Park—you know, a typical-picture-perfect-movie-proposal.

But he jumped the gun. He couldn’t wait. The ring was burning a hole in his pocket.

The thing is, I prefer our proposal story, because it’s our proposal story. Every engagement is extra special because it’s unique. Even if you get the typical-picture-perfect-movie-proposal, it’s yours. There is something different about it: the two of you and your whole story, not just your proposal.

Puppet Movie Trailer Proposal

There isn’t much information offered with this video, but it was way too cute not to share.

I’ve seen quite a few YouTube proposals, but a lot of thought definitely went into this one. And talk about creative!

This man put together a “movie trailer” that looks like it’s being shown at a church or some kind of event center. He films his girlfriend throughout the entire thing, and it finally gets to a point when she realizes that the “preview” is actually their story (around 1:47).

Yes, this video is long. And, no, there’s no sound. But watching the woman’s, Donita’s, reactions through the entire thing and then watching her boyfriend appear (at 5:20 of the video) is so beautiful. He clearly put a lot of heart and thought into this proposal.

Sorority Proposal

Chloe wanted a really special, public proposal from her boyfriend, Zach. She knew it was coming. They had been talking about it. But she had no idea the exact day it was going to happen.

Zach and Chloe’s best friend, Zach, conspired and planned the proposal. They got all her sorority sisters together, along with other friends and family, for the event to make Chloe’s wishes come true. Sarah took her for a ride (with her eyes closed) telling her a surprise was coming.

I love in this video that Chloe is waiting, just about hopping out of her skin, for Zach to appear. When he comes into the picture (around 1:20) she doesn’t wait where she was lead but runs to him. It’s so precious that he leads her to her spot so he can propose as planned, which was clearly very important in this scenario.

Proposals with friends and family just make it extra special! Including everyone who has and is going to be important in the couples’ life is definitely a plus.

By the way, he finally drops to his knee at 2:20. Congrats you two!

Ring Pop Proposal

Are you proposing to someone who loves candy? Or maybe you can’t afford a ring just yet? Keep reading!

Ring Pop does custom wrappers! All you have to do is design it, then order it from myringpop.com. First you pick a wrapper (you can make these for other occasions as well). Then you type your message. I made this one just so you could see what I mean!

After you pick your wrapper and message, you pick your favorite flavor (or, rather, your to-be-fiance’s favorite flavor). The great thing about this, too, is you get a whole box! So it’s not like she would have her engagement ring for only a day. After all, who is going to wear a Ring Pop and not eat it? A box comes with 25 candies. She can save the first wrapper, and then show all her friends the rest (or even share them)!

But wait, there’s more. (Yeah, I went there). If you wanted to carry this over to your wedding, they have a “just married” wrapper. So they could be your parting gifts for your guests! How neat is that?

OK… I will stop obsessing over this. But, seriously. I wish my hubby had known about this when he proposed. It would have saved him some money while he saved for the real engagement ring, and it’s beyond thoughtful/creative!

Oklahoma Proposal After Devastating Tornadoes

We all watched the news last week on the edge of our seats as devastation struck Moore, OK. Like with all natural disasters, we like to find the happiness underneath all the rubble.

The man and the woman in this video are from Moore, OK. Their neighborhood was completely demolished. As the faculty at the woman’s job is grouping around her, they tell her they are presenting her with a gift in hopes that it will come in handy while she’s waiting to return to her home. Even at this point she’s all choked up.

Her boyfriend took the opportunity to propose, knowing if they could face this hardship together, they could face anything.

My favorite part of the proposal is after she unwraps her boyfriend and says yes, this blonde woman rushes over and basically sticks her camera in their faces. I’m not sure if this classifies as capturing or intruding on the moment.

Special congratulations to this couple that has found happiness amidst so much sadness.

A Three-Paged Proposal

Gabriel decided to propose to his girlfriend, Erica, on their one-year anniversary. He invited friends and family to be a part of it, only making the occasion that much more special. Inviting people to a proposal can be tricky. After all, what if she says no? Something tells me Gabriel had nothing to worry about, and I knew this before she said yes.

As you may notice at the bottom of this video, it’s quite long. The beginning introduces you to Gabriel and he tells you about his plan, and you get to go through and meet some friends/family and so on. Erica enters the restaurant around 3:38 of the video.

The proposal starts around 4:50, but you definitely want to see her reaction at 4:10 when she realizes her family has flown in from out of state. I have a feeling that’s when she starts to understand precisely what’s going on, although at the end of the proposal she’s still jumping up and down as if she had no idea (which is at 9:50).

The way she’s looking at him as he reads his three (it may be four) pages is so beautiful. She is so in-tune with him and you can tell that his feelings are reflecting off of her face.

Did I mention I was bawling? This guy pours his heart out. It’s completely worth the five minutes to listen to him, and of course to finally see go down on one knee.
