5 Fun and Romantic Date Ideas When It’s Too Cold to Go Outside!

As much fun as wining and dining and hopping about town is with your guy, when it’s really cold in the dead of a frigid winter, sometimes it’s hard to do much more than peek over the covers. But before you give into another 12-hour Netflix spree, try one of these unique and fun indoor date ideas that will keep you safe from the chill and warm up your home (and relationship!).

Have a Hot Chocolate Contest

You make it water, he makes it with milk. You dig marshmallows,  he’s more of a chocolate syrup kind of dude. His grandma made it this way, your uncle make the best brew this side of the Mississippi. Go ahead – show him your hot chocolate making skills by spending some time in the kitchen (just in robes and socks is fine) making your place smell like delicious coco and discovering new ways you can let it drizzle. The best part? The oven keeps you toasty while making something you’ll both enjoy.

Go Gaming Old School

Yeah sure, you probably hate that Play Station or at least wish he didn’t play it for hours beyond end, but there’s a way to get competitive within your house without whipping out technology. Instead – play board games (like Monolopy, Life, Scrabble) or go real old fashioned by pulling out that dusty deck of cards and trying your hands at Rummy or Spades. The one who wins… wins something sexy.

Build a Fort

Remember when the most amazing creations could be made out of your pillows, chairs and quilts? While you’re probably a little too old to believe it’s really a fairy princess castle, you’re never too mature to enjoy the same pastime with a man who is your real-life prince. If you want to make it competitive, set up your humble abodes in separate rooms and time yourself, and then compare notes. Then you can spend some time “visiting” each other’s new digs.

Go Through Photos

Since you’re planning for the next stage of your life, it’s a good time to reflect on what you’ve already experienced together: the first few weeks, the moment when you knew he was the one, your very first mini-weekend away together. Spend some time going through Facebook and save the photos that mean the most to both of you and order them off a photo printing service like Shutterfly.com. That way you check something off your to-do list, but taking a lovely trip down memory lane.

Plan a Trip – Or Your Honeymoon!

What’s a better time than when you’re stuck inside in below-freezing temperature to book a tropical vacation? If you’re engaged, take the time to really sit down together and figure out what you’d like to do (you could even make it festive with margaritias and play tropical music) or if you’re not quite there yet, say yes to that great getaway that could just lead to a proposal…
