How They Met

David and I met through a mutual friend at a dance club. I hadn’t been out in a while, and he was standing Jason (the Dj). I was instantly curious: WHO IS THAT?

The Proposal

We’ve been together and strengthening us and our kids as a whole for the past 5 1/2 years… And we finally got engaged on 12/23/12. He had mentioned maybe reading a Christmas poem but we all thought is was kidding around… But along came Christmas Eve… and he was still talking about reading this poem. So he rounded all 5 of us up. My 2 kids, his twin girls and I sat us on the couch for what we all thought was going to be a corny 5th grade Christmas poem he had written years ago, but he read this recently written Christmas/Proposal poem instead:

I’m happy to see this time of year,
because our family goes from afar to near.
Having us all together so close is what makes me happiest the most.
Having Jayden, Aleeya, Madison and Bee
Fun and joy setting up the Christmas tree.
Hanging stocking upon the staircase
is such a loving warm embrace.
For Christmas only comes one time a year
to see it come and go brings me a tear
But we all need to remember what’s important for us-
that we all have a loving trust.
This is Christmas and it’s full of our love
and of those that are looking from above
I will never forget all the enjoyment I have with you
You all make me feel so special too
Paige, you made this all come together
I’m glad we didn’t just float away like a feather.
You stuck wit our misfit bunch
you must have had a big ol’ hunch
That this could work and we all could live happily with each other.
You have been such a wonderful mother.
You ave also been the best a man could have and ask for.
Paige, you’ve been so wonderful and true
I wouldn’t want to think of life without you.
I want to love you forever and all the days I see
So please, would you marry me?

The first words out of my mouth were, WHAT?! Are you kidding?! Followed by a YES! Then the 6 of us all took a few minutes to do hugs all around…

The Engagement Ring

The ring is 14 k white gold, custom made as far as we can tell… no makings to go by. And it’s an older ring with a vintage flare. Center stone is a 1.3 carat diamond and the band has 5 diamond chips on each side. I love it. I call it “my galaxy” ring. The center diamond is so beautifully flawed- it looks like he shrunk the Milky Way, put it in my ring and gave it to me! The diamond looks like it has glitter in it when it’s in the sun. simply gorgeous…
