Get to know designers behind the scenes through our new “A Day in the Life of a Jewelry Designer” column. We are kicking this new series off with none other than Sylvie Levine of Sylvie.

How would you describe yourself in three words and why?

Perfectionist, driven, and passionate.

What is your typical day like as a designer? 

As an owner I wear many different hats, but the best part of my job is when it comes to creating my pieces, especially with special orders and customization because it allows me to explore new settings and design combinations. I’m always looking for new inspiration and approving or editing new designs.

I also make sure everything works together and communicate daily with our retail partners.

What is your typical day like as a career woman?  

First, I start off with a strong cup of coffee! Sometimes 3 cups a day to keep me going! I look through hundreds of jewelry cads (such as the one featured above). Even the simplest ring can go through 10 cad revisions. I never switch off. I work on the weekends and late during the week

How is it working as a husband and wife team?

Working with my husband is great, especially when we get to travel! We have separate roles, but we still work together which keeps the balance. Switching off is hard when you work together – you grow and change together.

How do you manage your time during the work week?

It is much easier now than when I started with young kids almost 20 years ago. I work longer hours now, but I have great time management skills. I work from home one day a week to give myself some self-care, plus there are far less distractions!

What are some fun habits you have?

I love huge and complicated puzzles. Did I mention coffee in this article? =)

What are some fun facts about you?

French is my native language. I was born and raised in Belgium and I speak 5 languages. I am a foodie, a travel and chocolate lover. I have been in the diamond industry since my 20s.

What do you do on the weekends/off time?

I love to do photo-books from travels. I never watch TV, love watching sunsets and spending time with family and friends at our lake house during the Summer.

How do you start your day?

My husband makes me coffee then I try to meditate and stay away from y phone.

What are three essentials you always have with you?

Red Lipstick, phone, Instant coffee.

What are some of your favorite fashion pieces to wear?

I wear a variety of the jewelry my husband designs for me, but I never wear a watch! Black and white are my favorite colors! I also love denim and wearing white breezy dresses in the summer! Diane Von Furstenberg and Vince are two of my favorite designers.
