When You’re Jealous of Their Ring

Chapter 4: When their ring is bigger/more expensive/etc than your’s and you can’t help but feel jealous

Sometimes we can’t help it when jealousy rears its ugly head—and that is okay as long as you can keep the green-eyed monster at bay. Succumbing and plotting some crazy hijinks to steal your frenemie’s diamond is probably not a great life choice, and again, horrible wedding juju.

Remember, it’s okay to compliment someone else for their good fortune without devaluing yours. Just focus on your positives and don’t feel threatened by it. Remind yourself that your fiancé picked out your ring with love or about his awesome proposal. If those aren’t giving you the warm fuzzies, concentrate on what a great husband you’re getting. But nothing’s worse than saying something that puts down your fiancé whether it was his choice in rings, the amount of money he spent, or the proposal itself. Don’t let someone else’s big rock ruin what should be YOUR happy moment. After all, no one can affect your own personal happiness except yourself.

Things to avoid making it worse:

– Dressing in all black and plotting a raid to steal their diamond. Get a grip, girlfriend. This ain’t the Hope Diamond.
 – Saying, “Oh, I could never wear something that big. It would be much too gaudy.”
 – Sobbing over their Instagram and Facebook photos showing off the sparkly (remember, the goal is to get your fiancé to commit to you, not to get him to commit you to an insane asylum.
 – Licking their ring and pretending it’s a ring pop. Just gross. (And yes. People do this)

Jealousy is one of those emotions that can sure be a doozy, whether you’re feeling it yourself or having to deal with others’ feelings toward you. Don’t let the green eyed monster ruin your engagement and focus on the positives. After all, whether it’s someone you care about who just got engaged or now you’re getting your turn at a happy ever after—isn’t your time much better spent on what really matters?
