The Proposal

I had been sitting on the ring and planning on proposing for months but just hadn’t found the perfect place to do it. A little back story, I have two small boys whom Bethany loves just as if they were her own. Bethany knew that I was planning a family photo session for us and the boys but this was really just a decoy to get my proposal photographed. She would have questioned it if we were out somewhere and she saw one of my best friends John Myers, whom she knows is a well-known photographer, following us around with a fancy camera.

So, I still hadn’t decided on a place for our family photo session/surprise proposal and John Myers and I had been communicating a few times a week in the months prior trying to decide on the perfect venue. About a week before the proposal John called me and said “Kevin, you’re weird and quirky guy, how do you feel about proposing on an alpaca farm?” Without any hesitation I said, “I’m for it!” We were, after all, still leading her to believe that we were mainly going to have pictures taken of the boys and if alpacas were involved she wouldn’t have any suspicion.

We arrive at the Hidden River Alpaca farm and are immediately greeted by the owners, Marc and Teresa Johnson, who were in on the surprise. After an hour long session of taking pictures of the boys with the alpacas the owners suggested they take the boys up to the barn to look at the tractors. They were doing this to get Bethany and I by ourselves. John then asked us to go feed the alpacas and get a few pictures of just us. While we were surrounded by the lovely animals I dropped to one knee. I couldn’t even get out the words I had been planning on saying because I was so filled with emotion that I couldn’t hold the tears back and it felt like I was swallowing apples.

The Engagement Ring

I have never “ring shopped” before so I didn’t really know what I was doing. The sales representative at Jared’s was very helpful in guiding me in the right directions. She showed me my band options and allowed me to choose the style of the stone. I was really attracted to the Marquise cut and knew Bethany would fall in love with it.
