Emily and Cassie Sweet Engagement Session

Emily & Cassie

How They Met

We met online in August 2011. I was just browsing the site one day and saw Emily’s profile. I immediately sent her a “wink”. A week went by and nothing. So I sent another wink. It took me about three tries to actually get a response from her. Finally she contacted me and we talked for about a week before deciding to meet in person. She lived in Austin and I lived 2.5 hours away in Sugar Land, TX. We spent our first day together doing some of our favorite things: having a beer and pizza picnic, feeding my cows, and enjoying each other’s company. It was a quick meet but there were sparks from the beginning. We moved to Seattle in 2012 and have been together ever since.

The Proposal

The story is a bit ironic. Emily was in India for a month and we had been talking about going to Oktoberfest in Leavenworth when she returned. I bought the ring while she was away and made arrangements at a beautiful bed and breakfast on the Wenatchee River in view of Icicle Ridge. (I never make plans, so making plans on my own sort of got Emily speculating) When we arrived in town on Friday, we went to our favorite restaurant, South, and got our fix of Mexican food and margaritas. The next morning I had our hike to Icicle Ridge planned, but when we got there, it was packed. I made a spur of the moment change in plans and drove Emily down to the Wenatchee River. We walked down to the water and took in the view as I procrastinated anxiously. Emily knew then what was going to happen because I was “acting weird”. So after a good five minutes of stuttering and talking aimlessly, I got down on one knee (while tripping on rocks and almost smashing my face) and popped the question! She obviously said yes and as our tradition goes, we went back to South for a celebratory lunch.

The Engagement Session

For our engagement session, we decided on a place that seemed to fit our personalities the best. We are both Texas girls and love the fair. I grew up raising cattle and showing at the fairs, so it seemed appropriate.

The Engagement Ring

The ring is uniquely traditional. I was never a diamond girl until Cassie told me to start looking. The ring is a round diamond with a diamond halo around the middle and diamonds on the side.

The Photographer

Amelia from Amelia Soper Photography “I love engagement sessions especially because it gives me a chance to really get to know who my couples are before the pomp and circumstance of the wedding day. I like that it allows the couple to be themselves and have fun without the pressure of everything having to be formally pretty and perfect. But what I love most is the chance to really capture the silly and goofy love they share together every day; because I think that’s the part that really matters.”
