He Wrote Her a Song to Propose!

Dana & Kevin

How they Met

We originally met at church, but friendship started over a Dodgers/Giants rivalry. We love to go to the beach, play with our dog Lucy, go to baseball games, and read together.

The Proposal

I (Kevin) had told Dana that we had a work dinner on a Monday night.  We were coming back from a weekend at my family’s vacation house, and Dana was NOT excited. After we parked the car, I pulled out my iPhone, two sets of headphones, and told Dana that I had a surprise for her: that I had written a song especially for her.  I told her that we had a little bit of time until the work dinner started, so I wanted to walk around and listen to the song.

So, we put on our headphones, began listening to our song, and started walking.  As we walked, the lyrics began to talk about me wanting to spend the rest of my life with her, and Dana began to get that questioning look on her face.  She would later say that she had an idea I was going to propose, but didn’t want to get her hopes up. As the song progressed, I led her to the big waterfall in the Plaza, and as the song came to an end, the lyrics said, “Would you be ok with a diamond ring and spend your life with me?”  As soon as those lyrics were sung, I pulled the headphones out of our ears, got down on one knee, and pulled out the ring.  And she started laughing and crying at the same time.

I asked her if she would make me the happiest man in the world by marrying me, and she nodded, “Yes.”  Then, just to be safe, I asked her, “Is that a Yes?”  Through her laughter, smiles, and tears, she said, “Yes!” and then a big scream erupted from our family and friends – who I had secretly conspired with so that they could watch the whole thing from a nearby restaurant. We spent the rest of the night celebrating with family and friends at the Prickly Pear Cantina.  So much fun!!

The Engagement Session

We knew we wanted locations with books because we love reading together.  Then our photographer picked our locations based on the lighting.

The Engagement Ring

The center diamond is from Dana’s great grandmother’s wedding ring, in a pave setting, with a really thin, dainty band. Dana showed me her favorites and I worked with a jewelry designer to bring it to life. I worked with Serge Kazandjian at French Jewelry in the San Francisco Jewelry Mart.
