They Picked the Ring Together but the Proposal was Still a Surprise!

John & Heather

A Ring Shopping Adventure

Heather and I began our adventure ring shopping about 3 months ago. Living 2,340 miles apart, we began our search online. After many Saturday afternoons shopping online using FaceTime on our iPhone’s, our search narrowed to a Sylvie Collection ring. Almost simultaneously, we both nearly said the same words at first sight, “we need to find out more about this ring!”

Because they couldn’t find a Sylvie Collection retailer in Idaho, Heather and her mother went on their way down to Charlotte to Diamonds Direct. After a few hours looking at many other choices, we both agreed upon the ring we saw just a week earlier.

Sylvie Levine was very flattered the couple decided to go on a hunt for this specific ring: “I love how resourceful, dedicated and excited John and Heather became when they found not only each other but their Sylvie Collection ring which they deemed ‘love-at-first-sight’. They selected a real beauty–a four prong, two-carat princess cut stunner with graduating baguettes down the shank. The perfect ring for this adventurous couple who would not settle for a ring in their zip code! ” she said.

The Proposal

Now that we had decided on a ring, it diluted the “surprise factor” which made my planning just a bit more difficult… One place we have never been together was Miami. In my mind, the “perfect storm” was brewing…

It was early Saturday morning, September 15th and I had chartered a seaplane for 1 hour for an early morning “sunrise” tour. The plan was to “tour” the area around Miami flying over some of the most beautiful houses Miami has to offer…

SUDDENLY, the engine propeller stops and stalls… Tony purposefully tilts the plane, does a gentle nose-dive and the engine stalls once again. (Of course, it was part of the plan) In a controlled downward “dive”, we hit the water with the pontoons splashing and the engine shut off. At this point, we are about 50 meters from a small, uninhabited island off the coast of Miami. As we step off the pontoon, Heather is holding my hand leading me to the beach. I “accidently” trip tugging on her hand…..she turns around and we all know how the story ends…down on one knee, “WILL YOU MARRY ME?!!!” And of course she said YES!
