A Cinderella Proposal

Because he wanted it to be as special as possible, James planned his proposal for months. He’d already picked out a wedding date of May 2, 2010, so he wanted to time the proposal to be exactly one year prior to that. The couple, who met swapping parenting advice on an online parenting community, quickly grew to be friends and they instantly fell in love when they met in October 2008.

The proposal

While preparing the proposal, James decided to make it Cinderalla-themed. First, he found an exact replica of Jenn’s favorite childhood stuffed animal on eBay — a stuffed rat from the Disney film Cinderella. He wanted something to use as  a “glass slipper” for his proposal, so he bought some cushiony pink flip-flops that he knew Jenn would adore. Next, he went and ordered a cake that said: “The slipper fit. Congratulations, Jenn and Jimmy.” Finally he went to party supplies store and bought Cinderella-themed tablecloths, napkins, cups, plates and balloons.

The next day he hid the engagement ring in his pocket and stuck the stuffed animal, “Gus Gus,” in his car. After dinner they went to the beach to watch the sun set. They sat in the car for an hour or so when James asked Jenn to take off her left sock and shoe. He went to the other side of the car and put the stuffed animal in a car seat. He grabbed the slipper and opened Jenn’s car door and said to her, “James Gallo has proclaimed that the woman whose foot fits this slipper is the woman who she wishes to wed. May I try it on?”

Jenn tried the slipper on and it fit. James took the ring out of his pocket and asked her if she would marry him. She replied twice, “Do you even have to ask?” before finally saying yes. Then he said, “He approved.” She asked, “Who approved?” He said, “He does,” while pointing to the back of the car. She turned and saw Gus Gus staring at her and got really excited.

The couple returned home where their friends and family were waiting to celebrate the news.
