How important is the proposal? Should I spend a lot of money on it…or put that money towards a nicer ring?

Question: How important is the proposal?  Should I spend a lot of money on it…or put that money towards a nicer ring? Thanks.

Answer: If you have the money, you should definitely put as much of it as possible toward the ring because the ring will last forever. One thing men must remember is that an engagement ring is an investment. Spending tons of money on the proposal won’t make the proposal any special. What makes a proposal special is how hard you work to make it special.

Try to find something unique from your intimate history together and prepare a proposal she won’t expect. Do something you normally wouldn’t do. That would blow her mind and, depending on what you do, will make her much happier than a proposal that cost a lot of money but had no originality.

Oh wow, for some reason I always thought the proposal and the ring were mutually exclusive but that’s obviously not the case! Maybe it’s because throwing a “crazy” proposal is a new phenomenon. In the past men didn’t have to think about it or “plan” about it because the proposal was just them getting on their knee during dinner.

hmmm, i don’t think i agree. i actually think the proposal is much more important than the ring because even if you buy the wrong ring you can always “upgrade” the ring further down the line. not so with a proposal. your proposal is set in stone and can’t be redone. i personally would prefer an elaborate proposal over a ring, but that’s me. i guess it depends entirely on what is more important for your girlfriend.

I definitely think the ring is more important. I rarely hear women complaining about the proposal. I always hear them complaining about their ring or the size of the diamond or whatever.

Being a girl with a less extravagant taste in jewelry I don’t expect an expensive ring however just because I cheap out on the ring doesn’t let the guy off the hook for the proposal in my eyes. It really all depends on the girl.
