How They Met
“Kristin and I were set up on a blind date! The day of our first date, Kristin had to leave town last minute for a family emergency and cancelled on me – I was so disappointed! She and I ended up texting and Facebooking on and off for the next 3 weeks while she was out of town. Finally, she came back to Los Angeles, and on August 22nd we went on our first lunch date. She made me laugh from the beginning, and that helped me to relax. Three days later, Kristin took me out to dinner for the first time at Nobu in Malibu, and that was it – we’ve been together ever since!”
“I found the perfect way to propose to Kristin! In the past, Kristin has taken me on elaborate scavenger hunts through LA to find gifts and our engagement seemed like the perfect opportunity to return the favor. Santa Monica Pier is an iconic place in LA with rides and games and it was a place we had never been together – the perfect place for a surprise proposal! On Saturday October 12, 2013. I told Kristin we had dinner plans but had to leave our house early. When we headed out the door, I handed Kristin an envelope and told her that we actually were going on a scavenger hunt, and enclosed in the envelope was her first clue. Once we arrived at the Pier, I gave her the next clue that took us to the Merry-Go-Round. As we moved through the Pier, Kristin would ride a ride, or play a game and ask the person controlling the ride for her next clue. After fun games like wack-a-mole and ring toss (hint hint), we made our way to the Ferris Wheel where I planned to pop the question!
“We made our first rotation on the ferris wheel and then the operator stopped it just for us, right on top, overlooking the Pacific Ocean exactly as the sun started to set. I told Kristin it was time to open up her next clue. In the envelope, she read a poem asking her to marry me. After she read the poem, I immediately pulled out her perfect engagement ring. She slid it on, and began to cry. When we got off of the ferris wheel all the workers were yelling, CONGRATULATIONS! I couldn’t have pulled it off without all the hard working employees of the Santa Monica Pier! To top off our night, we went to our favorite restaurant to celebrate with Champagne and Caviar.”
The Engagement Rings
“When prop 8 was overturned in California last June, I knew that Kristin was the one for me and that I wanted to be the first one to propose! I really wanted to surprise Kristin and do something that she wouldn’t expect. I knew that she had no idea what kind of engagement ring she wanted, so that made it an even greater challenge. I met with Evelyn Huang, our ring designer, and she made the whole selection process perfect! She walked me through all the options, and in the end we picked the perfect stone and design. After deciding on a direction it took a couple of months for Kristin’s custom ring to be created.”
“Luckily for me, I was surprised with a ring too! Because the cat was already out of the bag, I told Kristin that she HAD to go to the same ring designer, Evelyn Huang. There is nothing like getting a custom ring designed just for you. Once again, we had the most amazing experience working with Evelyn. I was able to select the stone I wanted and left picking the setting and metal up to Kristin! Kristin surprised me with my completed engagement ring over our Christmas vacation – I couldn’t imagine a more perfect engagement. How lucky are we that we both got to have custom rings! Though our rings look completely different on the outside, the inside of both rings have a little heart with our initials engraved so they will always be connected. All I can say is Thank God we went on that blind date all those years ago!”
The Set Up
Chris decided to propose on Seal Beach, California, as they both love the sand, the surf and the sunshine. The location was also very convenient for his plan: there will be enough space so their friends could “photobomb” the couple’s picture without Heather knowing.

Ruth & Justin
I knew my birthday was going to be special, but I had no idea it would be the best day of my life. I just returned home from a relaxing morning of manicures and pedicures with my mom, and was getting ready for the day. Justin made fantastic plans for my 29th birthday. He arranged for fifty of our friends and family to join us at a Los Angeles Dodgers’ game. As an extra birthday bonus he also arranged with his friend and former co-worker, Afton, to take us on a tour of the stadium before the game. I thought, “Wow, I have the most amazing boyfriend! I get to go behind the scenes of my favorite team!” I was a lifelong fan and I was so excited.

Nicole and Ricky dated for 3 ½ years before getting engaged, but this couple knew each other a lot longer than that! They met in the first grade. Ricky was her neighbor. They played together until he moved and they lost touch. Nicole was working as an adapted physical eduaction specialist and Ricky was working as an editor and producer in television. One day Ricky’s mother came into Nicole’s work and recognized her after all those years. She said her son Ricky would love to hear from Nicole and gave her his number. She gave him a call and they picked up where they left off! They reminisced about the past but they didn’t waste time building new memories doing things they both loved- snowboarding, wakeboarding, and wine tasting. The sparks started flying!

It all started with a mission trip to Japan in 2002. Gabe stayed in touch with his new friends Kari and Pajai from Simpson, California but he never dreamed his friends would try to set him up. They looked at each other and decided to try to get Angie and Gabe together.

Sydnee asked Wayne out three times over a year and a half before he finally said yes.
