Morganite engagement rings are very popular this season. Their unique peach to pink color is so romantic and pretty. Masis Agopian of Makur Designs started designing jewelry with morganites back in 2002. We sat down with him to get the 101 on this super trendy stone.

- The name morganite was picked to honor J.P. Morgan for his support and donations to the American Museum of Natural History in New York. A museum that still has the most amazing collection of crystals and gemstones.

- Morganites are durable but not as hard and as tough as diamonds. They are between 7.5 to 8 on the Mohs scale, diamonds are a 10. Which means you need to plan to take off your morganite engagement ring for activities soliciting you hands. Your morganite ring should also stay as far away as possible of lotions and cleaning products.

-  Morganites come in many shades of pink and peach. The most beautiful and rare salmon morganites are coming from Mozambique. You can also mine morganites in other countries  and in California where they are usually pale pink.makur

- Morganites are affordable. A 1 carat stone is about $250 compared to $3,000 to $27,000 for a diamond depending on how close to perfection it is. If you like their hue and can’t afford a large diamond center yet, they are a great option. You can always plan an upgrade of your center stone down the road with a diamond and just focus on a beautiful diamond setting for now.

- Morganites can be cut in an array of shapes such as round, oval, pear, cushion, heart, trillion…

- People wearing morganites have reported that it is stress alleviating and brings on a warm and loving fuzzy feeling.
