One on One with Grace Terezian

Marketing director for the colorful Kirk Kara engagement ring collection, Grace tells us about her first steps in the jewelry business and a few things about her favorite kind of engagement rings.

Quickly, without giving too much thought, what is the first piece of jewelry  that caught your attention as a child?

My grandmother’s platinum and hand engraved wedding band.

When did you realize you wanted to work for the family business?

I was only thirteen. I used to see my father and mother working so hard and I just wanted to be involved.  My father started taking me to tradeshows when I was 14 and I would help customers with suggestions of pieces for their stores. When I would hear reports that they sold the pieces I suggested, well I just got the bug and I guess there was no turning back from there.  I could say, jewelry is in my blood.

Tell us more about your engagement ring and your proposal.

My husband waited a long time to propose because he wanted to find the perfect diamond for my engagement ring.  With the advice of my father they set my beautiful cushion diamond in a solitaire setting.  Together, my husband and I decided on the design of my engagement ring and wedding bands.  He proposed to me on Christmas eve in my childhood bedroom. That was very special and symbolic all at the same time.

Kirk Kara has a vintage flair. What is your favorite period for engagement rings and why?

For me vintage is not only about a style but about handcrafted details and the use of colored stones.  It is about the hours a craftsman take to create a piece of jewelry that is unique for each individual.  I love milgrain edging and hand engraving, so I would say inspirations from the 1920s.

Color gemstones accents are very importantly showcased in your collections. Why do you think girls fall in love with these hints of color?

Color brings energy and happiness to your everyday.  I think women appreciate this and also the uniqueness color brings to an engagement rings. A women who wears Kirk Kara is looking for that “something different that will be Forever Captivating.”

This month, we focus on successful women in business. Any tips for our ladies in waiting with career on the brain without giving up on romance and their relationship?

Always follow your heart, not your mind. Your heart will lead you to the right direction. Always remember that balance is key to a happy life, not only with your career but your partner in life.  Don’t let your career take over.
