A Jewelry Designer gets Married

Belgium native Laurence Bruyninckx designs amazing stackable engagement rings to customize to your taste. She told us all about the symbolism behind her designs as well as the story of her romantic proposal!

Can you tell us about the first ring you ever designed?

How could I forget?  It is my pride and joy! The first ring I ever designed is my engagement ring, which serves as the inspiration for a number of my other designs.  Like all of my pieces, it is a stackable set composed by a delicate solitaire with brilliant white diamonds swirling around the center stone.

Why is stacking such an important part of your design concept and collection?

I feel symbolism is a very important part of jewelry.  Especially with my bridal collection. My stackable concept is based on the beauty and energy of unity. Like couples who come together to create a beautiful union on their wedding day, so can their ring, which symbolizes their union and coming together as one breathtaking unit.

Since you are a designer, was your partner involved at all in the selection of your ring?

My husband, Raphaël, picked my engagement ring design from all of the countless designs I had sketched. He loved it’s fluidity.  He also loved its symbolism. It was the first ring I designed and marked the beginning of my journey in jewelry.  He felt, as did I, it was symbolic as it also marked the beginning of our journey together.

Was your proposal very romantic?

Yes of course!  Every proposal is romantic as it comes from the heart. What can be more romantic than someone asking you to share their life with you forever?

Raphaël proposed to me in Miami. I was there on business and had asked Raphaël to join me in hopes of extending some time for some much needed rest and couple time. Unfortunately he was unable to come at the last moment due to his own business commitments.  At least that’s what he made me believe. My father told me he was coming to see me in Miami. When I got to my hotel room, I was so confused, I was greeted by a display of champagne and strawberries. Moments later, Raphaël walked into the room with a handful of balloons and a bit disappointed that I had arrived earlier than him. It wasn’t the proposal he had in mind as he wanted to propose on the beach but instead, he did it right then and there. He was so excited to see me! It was very sweet. We had a great weekend at the Delano Hotel in Miami!

What do you miss about Belgium when you are in the US and what do you love when you are on our side of the Atlantic?

I have traveled my entire life and love doing it. I have so many rich memories and experiences that I truly relish. However I must share the one thing I do miss are the people and moments left behind…especially as I get older. Another thing I really miss when I travel for business is home cooked meals. There are a lot of things to see in America from amazing landscapes to the beautiful museums you have here. I love going to the MET, it’s a place full of inspiration.

What are the few essentials you always have with you when traveling?

I love this question! My sketch book of course! You never know when an idea will pop up in your brain. My noise-cancelling headphones to cancel out any noise I don’t want to hear. My ipad and computer to work and watch movies on. The perfect set of earring and necklace to wear and be ready for any occasion.
