Celeb-Envy: Celebrity Engagement Rings

By Jewelry and Style Expert, Michael O’Connor

Celebrity engagement rings have always demonstrated the most current trends in size, shape, style or color. These days however, it seems that celebrity engagement ring envy isn’t just coming from non-celebs, but from other celebrities. Instead of rings that focus on one trend, today’s celebrities seem to “want it all”, and their engagement rings are reflecting a mix of trends – perhaps ones seen on other celebrities. Let’s take a look at some of the most current celebrity engagements and the mix of trends their rings showcase. (Click NEXT to see the first trend)

Personalization/Fancy Shape: When “Mad Men” star Jared Harris wanted to propose to his girlfriend Allegra Riggio, he sought the help of one of Hollywood A-List jewelers, Erica Courtney, to create a unique engagement ring. The result? A ring that combines two of today’s hottest engagement ring trends. The fancy center heart-shaped diamond, is held above a rose gold band in a specially designed “gallery” that incorporates the initial, “H” for…. “Harris”.  Maybe they were inspired by Halle Berry’s emerald engagement ring, set into a mounting comprised of personal symbols meaningful to her and her fiancé. Halo Styling/Color: Were Olivia Wilde and Jason Sudeikis influenced by Natalie Portman’s halo style or Kate Middleton’s vintage gorgeous colored gemstone engagement ring? We may never know for sure. But one thing is for certain. Olivia got the best of both of these popular trends with her yellow gold engagement ring topped by a brilliant round diamond center nestled neatly into a halo of gorgeous green emeralds. (Photo credit: people.com)

Vintage Styling/Fancy Shape: Vintage movies, TV and vintage clothing have taken Hollywood, and the country, by storm. The vintage trend isn’t unusual in engagement rings either, with celebs like Anna Paquin and Miley Cyrus loving the style. But how do you make a style unique? Well, Alexis Bledel and Vincent Kartheiser found the perfect combination of trends. Their vintage platinum engagement ring showcases detailed and intricate hand chasing. What makes the ring truly unusual is the octagonal cut fancy shape diamond that centers the band. (Photo credit: people.com)

Classic Styling/Pave: Savannah Guthrie announced her engagement to Michael Feldman on The Today Show, complete with a presentation of roses given to her by guest Bradley Cooper. She announced, “We’ve been together for four years so,.. no one will accuse us of rushing into anything”.  Her engagement ring, also a well thought out mix. A combination of the always-popular classic solitaire styling combined with one of the hottest ring trends, pave.  Celebrities like Jennifer Hudson and Kelly Clarkson have been leading the pave trend. (Photo credit: people.com)

Fancy Shape/Classic Styling: Maybe Elle Macpherson felt that Kim Kardashian’s engagement ring to Kris Humphries was a touch too big, so took the fancy shape style and simplified it – a bit!  Instead of flanking the impressive, approximately 5 carat, center diamond with other diamonds, Elle and her fiancé, Jeffrey Soffer, opted for the hugely popular classic solitaire style setting. (Photo credit: people.com)
