Do You Believe in Love at First Sight? They do!

Bethany and Tyler

How They Met

Tyler and I met at Neumann University. It was our first day on campus and he lived two doors down from me. My best friend growing up (who had also attended NU) ran into my room and said, “You have to come meet this cute guy two doors down!!” After some persistence I went with her, and that was the first time I met Tyler! To this day I tease my best friend about calling my now future husband cute, she’s in my bridal party and we still joke about it! Tyler and I spent many late nights talking, studying, sending our families funny videos on facebook, working out together, and soon enough we had developed such a strong friendship and love for each other we just KNEW. It seems cliché to say that, but truly both of us knew that the other was “THE ONE” the day we met. Tyler’s dad still tells me about the time Tyler called him on the phone from school exclaiming that he met “the one, the girl he would marry,” and his dad was doubtful in that he had only known me for a few short days! Likewise, I had called my sister driving home from school the second weekend exclaiming that I met the one. In my rant of telling my sister how much I had fallen for this guy, I missed my exit on the highway, and actually had to throw my car in reverse on the side of the road to make my exit! Although some may say love at first site is not true, I believe Tyler and I are a testament to that!!

The Proposal

Bethany grew up along the Delaware River at her grandfather’s house. She has spent countless hours smoldering in the sun, taking long boat rides, or just enjoying the waves coming in along the beach. I knew this would be a perfect location that has helped create so many memories. Prior to this occasion, I orchestrated our two families to join up for a picnic at the beach – something her grandparents wanted to happen for quite some time. I had  “Will you marry me” written in the sand ahead of time. Beth and I went for a short walk on the beach, unbeknownst to her, our families awaited eagerly on the pier as they watched a son, a daughter, cousin, grandchild, embark on the first few steps of their newly found journey. We approached the writing in the sand; I pressed one knee firmly into the sand –  calmly confident, I looked into her eyes and asked, “Will you marry me” . I could see her eyes observing the nearby question in the sand, reiterating what I just asked.  She cried, cried, cried, cried and then when I thought she was done – she cried some more. For those 4 minutes or less, she competed with Niagara Falls.  I then asked, “Yes? You still haven’t said yes!” She replied, “Yes!”

The Engagement Ring

I had told Tyler that I wanted something different I felt that the princess cut was very popular and it wasn’t my style, and when I looked down at the black box in his hand when he proposed and saw my engagement ring it was so much better than what I had imagined. The ring was a beautiful sparkling oval diamond with a halo of diamonds around it, along with a diamond band. It truly took my breath away.  A perfect mix of class, glamour, bling, and uniqueness. The engagement ring is by Scott Kay.
