Charlotte Church and Gavin Henson
The two might no longer be together now, but there’s no arguing about how amazing their proposal was. Former British opera singer Charlotte Church was joyous when she got engaged to boyfriend Gavin Henson earlier this year. The couple, who have been together for five years and have two children together, got engaged on the singer’s 24th birthday. The singer told OK! magazine how Gavin planned an elaborate marriage proposal that included a helicopter.
“As I came out of the shower, I said, ‘What’s that noise?’ And there was a helicopter outside,” she said. Gavin had rented his boss’ helicopter and landed it in their garden. After a startled Charlotte rushed out of the house, the two then flew to a seafront restaurant in Truro, Cronwall. Charlotte assumed the trip was birthday treat until they went for a walk, and Gavin got down on one knee and presented her with a 2-carat heart-shaped ring.
“We were always like: ‘Yeah, yeah, we’ll do it one day,’ but I was beginning to think I was going to be ‘girlfriend’ for the rest of my life,” Charlotte said.
Hilary Duff and Mike Comrie
The two lovebirds who just recently tied the knot also had an amazing proposal earlier this year. In Februrary, after more than two years of dating, Mike proposed to Hilary while on a romantic vacation in Maui, Hawaii. The proposal was seen by the entire world as a photographer snapped photos of the very moment when Mike asked Hilary to marry him. She clasped her hands over her mouth in surprise and then lovingly gazed at her engagement ring. The couple looked so happy and in love!
Kara DioGuardi and Mike McCuddy
Not all marriage proposals have to be extravagant. Former American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi started dating boyfriend and 34-year-old former school teacher-turned-general contractor Mike McCuddy a year and a half before he decided to pop the question during a romantic vacation in Mexico. The proposal took place on Kara’s 38th birthday as she sat in bed wearing “thermal smiley-face pajamas.” Mike lit some candles before asking her the question — well, two questions to be exact.
“He said, ‘I have a question: Do you know where my shoes are?” Kare told reporters at FOX’s Television Critics Association after-party, according to People. When she said she didn’t know, Mike responded with, “All right, well then, will you marry me?” As for her engagement ring? Mike went with a unique champagne citrone stone instead of a diamond.
Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer
True Blood stars Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer, who are an on-screen couple on the show, tried to keep their off-screen romance a secret from the rest of the cast. But, unfortunately, the secret only lasted for 10 months. A few months after going public with their relationship, the couple announced their engagement in late 2009. But it was Stephen’s character, Vampire Bill, on True Blood that inspired his proposal.
“There’s a song Bill listens to in the car about a white, sandy beach,” Stephen told Glamour UK. “So we decided to go away for a break — to a white sandy beach — and that’s where it happens.” The two got married August 21 in Malibu.
Patty Stanger and Andy Friedman
Although the Patty later announced that she ended her engagement with the real estate executive, we still love her proposal and think it’s pretty unique. Millionaire Matchmaker Patti Stanger regularly gives out relationship advice on her popular Bravo TV show, so she was more than happy when her boyfriend of six years finally decided to pop the question.
He hired a private chef to prepare a five-course meal that was served to the couple during a romantic private dinner in Maui, Hawaii. As the couple wined and dined in a private suite overlooking the ocean, Andy suddenly got on one knee. Then a tall, black swan came out with the ring. Yes, a swan.
“[It was] kind of weird, but cute,” Patti told Life & Style.
As for her engagement ring, Patti got a 4-carat heart-shaped diamond ring.
