Drew Barrymore: Technology is Ruining Relationships

drew-barrymore-relationshipActress Drew Barrymore is on the cover of this month’s Marie Claire. In the interview she talks about the hardships of being an old school romantic trapped in a high-tech world. With everyone using Facebook and Twitter, it seems like no one wants to pick up a phone anymore, the actress said.

“The fact that I’m begging for a phone call is pathetic in this age of technology,” she says. “Plans are made by text – I can’t stand it.”

The actress also admits to finding the over-sharing, lack-of-privacy nature of social networks as “scary.”

“I just don’t like this compulsive, instantaneous, over- information, lack-of-privacy, weirdo aspect of the world,” she says. “If you meet someone, they already know everything. What about showing up on the date and saying, ‘What do you do for a living? Who are your friends?'”

This topic of technology and its affect on relationships is a topic we have covered in the past (also see “Is Oversharing on Facebook ruining relationships” and “Couples fighting over Facebook“). And yes, while Twitter is terribly unromantic, maybe we’re all just a generation still too set in our ways? Surely our grandparents’ generation shunned the telephone.

What do you think about Drew Barrymore’s quotes?
