Is Sex Addiction a Real Addiction?

jesse-jamesWith the recent infidelities of Tiger Woods and Jesse James, there has been a lot of talk about “sex addiction.” Both Woods and James have spent months in rehabilitation clinics to cure themselves from this terrible disease that seems to only affect rich dudes.

PopEater asked a psychologist the question we all had on our minds: does sex rehab work?

“I think it is the cop-out du jour,” sexologist Isadora Alman told PopEater. “Yes indeed, there is reparative therapy — I wouldn’t be a therapist for 25 years if I didn’t think it worked. But so much of the celebrity rehabs like this one, like Tiger Woods, like a few others that have recently been in the news, are really a way of their publicists getting the person out of the hot-seat, out of the limelight and to take the heat off them. It’s also a way for them to get out of taking responsibility for their behavior. ‘Oh, the poor guy has a disease.'”

She added: “The whole setup for addiction-ology is that the person is not responsible, that their disease is responsible.”

South Park recently did an episode where they spoofed the whole Tiger Woods fiasco. They basically concluded the same thing — that these men lack a sense of responsibility for their actions.

What do you think? Do you agree with the psychologist?
