Inside the Male Mind: Studies prove men just as emotional as women, high sex drive

Although petty gender roles are usually scoffed upon today, it turns out that maybe those over generalizations of men being obsessed with territory and women being emotional are  not that grossly far fetched.

Louann Brizendine, an expert on psychology, explained to CNN how men can’t help being men because of the way their brains are wired. For example, Brizendine explains how men are wired to “defend his turf.”

“The dorsal premammillary nucleus is larger in the male brain and contains special circuits to detect territorial challenges by other males,” she explains. “And his amygdala, the alarm system for threats, fear and danger is also larger in men. These brain differences make men more alert than women to potential turf threats.”

In relation to sex and relationships, Brizendine explains how a man’s sexual pursuit area is 2.5 higher than a woman’s. Because of this, men can’t help it if an attractive woman crosses his path.

“Men look at attractive women the way we look at pretty butterflies,” she says. “They catch the male brain’s attention for a second, but then they flit out of his mind.”

And unlike women, they don’t seek security and reliability in a mate before sex. They’re wired to mate and mate until they actually fall in love which, Brizendine explains, can be just as hard and fast as the female brain.

And as for men being insensitive? Not so. Men are just if not more emotional than women, they are simply socially conditioned to bite back their emotions. When it comes to arguments, a man’s emotional outcry will be trying to quickly problem solve.

“With practice and because of the way their brains are wired, men use their analytical brain structures, not their emotional ones, to find a solution,” she said.

Although many commenters on CNN’s website have noted that other psychologists have concluded different theories from Brizendine, her study is still interesting nonetheless.

What do you think? Are men just slaves to their brains?
