Three’s a crowd
While country superstars Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood were attending an event that unveiled bronze statues of country legends, including one of Brooks, the country star did something no one would forget. The pair were both close friends throughout the ‘90s, but things didn’t get intimate until Brooks divorced his estranged wife in 2000. Yearwood and Brooks dated for five years before he decided to pop the question at the country legends event. After Brooks’ statue was unveiled, Yearwood noticed a wedding band on the statue’s finger. According to People, the country star pouted and said, “You’re not going [to do this] in front of these people?” Brooks then took off his hat, got on one knee and proposed to Yearwood in front of 7,000 cheering fans.

Do It Yourself Tip
For those who like to shout their love to the world, try taking your sweetie to a sports event and pop the question while being watched by thousands of fans via the jumbotron. Another alternative to this classic proposal is to do it at a concert. If you have the right connections, you might be able to pull off a proposal while on stage or while the band is playing your favorite song. For example, Bruce Springsteen is known to feature marriage proposals at his concerts. Maybe you, too, can be as lucky!

Paris, Je T’aime
Iconic actor Tom Cruise and Dawson’s Creek cutie Katie Holmes seemed like an unlikely pair. Although the public was skeptical about their romance and found Cruise’s public displays of affection (jumping on couches on The Oprah Winfrey Show) to be a little desperate, the couple sealed the deal with a romantic proposal at the Eiffel Tower on June 17, 2005. The engagement took place after the two had a candlelit dinner at Le Jules Verne restaurant. The couple then announced their engagement the next day at a press conference where Holmes blushed and showed off her large diamond engagement ring.

We understand that traveling to Paris might be out of the question for some couples, but for those who want to experience the flavor of Paris without having to travel far, here’s a more realistic tip: Why not bring France home? Take your sweetie to an authentic French restaurant and try to flatter her with a few French phrases. Je t’adore (I adore you) or Veux tu m’epouser? (Will you marry me?) After all, it is the language of love. You can also turn this into a French-themed dinner at home. Enjoy a nice French meal and then end the night with a romantic French film.

Flip the roles
Pop star Pink has never been the type of person to stay within conventions. Instead of traditionally having the man propose to the woman, she proposed to him. But that wasn’t the only thing unconventional. The singer popped the question to motocross racer Carey Hart during one of his races. While standing to the side, she held up a sign that said “Will you marry me?” as he raced by. She then flipped the sign over, which had “I’m serious!” written on the back. Hart pulled over, hugged her and said yes.

Do It Yourself Tip
Women proposing to men is growing in popularity as modern couples become more comfortable with relationship equality. But if you’re planning on proposing to a long-term boyfriend, make sure to not make it too extravagant or grandiose. Keep it romantic but casual, low key. Try popping the question after the end of a romantic date. Whisper it will quick in his ear and then present him with a ring. Getting down on one knee is optional only. Note: Don’t turn this into some kind of ultimatum (“If you don’t marry me I’ll…”); the proposal should be within the same vibe of a traditional proposal.
