Is Technology Good or Bad for Relationships?

Today’s modern technology keeps people more connected than ever before. According to BE Healthy, 70 percent of couples with cell phones contact each other once a day or more, while 40 percent of couples hook up via online dating sites. Judging by these statistics alone, it would appear couples should be thanking technology for bringing them together.

Thanks to social networking, texting and online services like Skype, couples can stay connected more often. This is good for couples in long-distance relationships, but what about couples who live together? Would technology like texting and Facebook updates be used as barriers standing in the way of real face-to-face contact?

The article concluded that there was no real factual data that says technology helps or harms relationships. Whether Facebook has singlehandedly made you forget your phone skills or not, the amount of influence technology has is determined solely on the individual couple. There are dozens of horror stories about relationships that crashed and burned due to something as insignificant as relationship status updates, but there are also just as many success stories.

So what do you guys think? Has Facebook and similar sites helped or harmed your relationships?
