Everyone’s favorite attention-grabbing family, the Kardashians, know a thing or two about good timing. That is, the family is good at breaking news in intervals so that each sister gets equal attention.

Although it seemed like a spur-of-the-moment event, Khloe’s wedding to boyfriend Reggie Bush was planned in the summer on purpose. According to Pop Crunch, Reggie was planning to surprise Khloe with a Christmas proposal, but when Kourtney found out she became angry. Kourtney was afraid that a proposal during Christmas would overshadow the birth of her child. Because of this, Khloe and Reggie got married in the summer instead of going along with the Christmas proposal as planned.

Although it sounds selfish, when it comes to making big announcements (getting married, getting engaged, etc.) people want their allotted time to shine. For someone to come along and step into those few minutes of spotlight can be frustrating, especially if you’re happy for that person but at the same time you’re frustrated at their timing.

So how do you avoid this? If you’re a guy who’s planning to propose soon, make sure to consult your fiancee-to-be’s family (especially if she has sisters) to see if proposing might clash into any other important announcements. Most people won’t consider it a big deal, but it’s proper proposal etiquette to check and make sure for yourself
